Locked out of Gravity -

Have you been locked out of your Lucid Gravity with the key fob and key card and phone in the vehicle?

Have your children or any other passengers or pets been locked in the vehicle unable to get out?

Please comment on this thread if you have.

Tonight was the second instance where I was locked out of my Gravity, but this time my kids were inside. I drove home, parked in the garage, got out of the driver’s side, closed the driver’s side door and the vehicle immediately locked with a quick double honk / beep, with the fob, keycard and my phone inside, along with my two small daughters (3 year old and 5 month old).

The only reason my car was not cut open by the fire department’s jaws of life is that my husband left his key card home while on a business trip, and I was at home.

I want you to imagine this same circumstance at 3 pm, in central California where it’s over 100 degrees, with no spare key card in reach, you stop to charge your vehicle somewhere along the highway at a supercharging station, but no one else is around to even borrow their phone.

Did you know the windows of the Gravity are laminated acoustic glass so they can’t be broken out?
I just had same issue from the car wash.. I left my cellphone, and key fod in the car.. and it is sunday.. if my kid was in the car and that happened I probably break that window.... I think lucid need to work on this..

No cardkey either?

I have my issues with the Lucid fob, but I don't know what more they can do than offer THREE ways to unlock the car. If someone fails to keep any pf the 3 available to them, well... at least turn off walkaway lock.

I think the point is that it shouldn't lock itself if the fob is inside the car. I know it's not just a Lucid problem, it has happened to me before in other brands, but not locking should be the expected behavior

I'm sorry, I do not have much empathy for someone who leaves their keys in the car, any car, on purpose, with auto-lock turned on. It's just asking for trouble.

Yeah, my wallet was in the car too. I had a BMW X7, and 4 both cars could detect when the key fob was inside and wouldn't lock the doors. So I was expecting this car to work the same way... if I left my kid inside same as first person, I would break the car.

Lucid's Apple watch app, or the ones being developed by others for other watches, would have made this a non-issue.

Even my Air will unlock if you press the handle and the fob is inside the car.

Do the BMW's have bluetooth or UWB as the communication protocol? For bluetooth it can be on all the time with very very little battery drainage. UWB (at least in the Lucid implementation) tends to use much more battery when the signal is on and thus will power down if it is not moving (like being left in a car). Thus the Lucid fob will turn itself off thus making detection impossible.

I suppose the fact the when a Gravity locks itself with a key fob inside and pressing the door handle unlocks the car, is irrelevant here. And if you have a Gravity with the bug that keeps the door handle from unlocking, then keeping the key card or your phone with you is also irrelevant.

And obviously, turning off auto-lock is beyond irrelevant.

This thread should be renamed "I own a Gravity, but I'm still adulting".

Yeah, just like some people got new vehicle need to learn how to grow up and speak to others with basic respect instead of being an asshole.

The auto locking with children in the car is an issue. The bigger issue is the car locks too quickly, even if you’re just walking around the other side to get your kid out. It happens every day for me.

I once left the key fob in the car in my garage and the door didn't lock. Of course I did it knowing that I have my key card on standby if it did lock automatically. I also once left my wife in the car while I went for to a shop to pickup something and the car didn't lock (I didn't even put the car in Pet Mode).

While it's easier for men not to have this issue, given that their phone and key fob are in their pocket, I understand the issue with women having everything in their purse. While I am paranoid, I always keep the driver door slightly open when I need to open the door for my kids from the back.

I find myself keeping a door or the liftgate open when I'm going back and forth to the car so it doesn't keep locking, to avoid it taking up to 40 seconds to recognize the fob to unlock again. Annoying.

So you want auto lock to behave how, exactly?

For the most part the walkaway lock isn't the problem. There are times it locks a bit too quickly (as the other poster said, when just walking around the car), but for the most part the distance is about right. For me the real issue is getting it unlocked if it does lock too quickly. If it just immediately unlocked again, no biggie.

I don't think I've ever had it not walkaway lock, which is odd since my fob has so much problem unlocking in a timely manner. But I still don't trust it because of that. Really wish they'd add walkaway lock chirp confirmation.

And I’m over here with two Fobs that work perfectly. What a wild difference in experience.

That’s a good point too. The amount of time it takes to unlock after it auto locks with my kids in the car is unnerving sometimes.

I have to say that is the first time I've ever been called that. 😀
Just gave my opinion, as did you. Appreciate it. I can take it.
No disrespect intended and hope you're ownership experience improves.
