Robotaxis prediction

So Tesla fans on X and Reddit are your source. That explains a lot of the nonsense that I see in this thread.
That guy is not a tesla fan. He is an independent tracker of all robotaxi comapnies. He is a young kid (maybe 18) who doesn't seem to drive a car or could care less about tesla

It stems from this issue. Waymo drives into flooding waters but rather than try to move the car out of flood waters remotely, they can't do it because their remote support software won't let them.

So what waymo can do is actually use the remote driving function they have to move the car. But they refuse to use it so they can claim they never remote drive their cars.

This is 100% not the case.

Waymo has an issue where their cars get stuck in flooding waters. They've had this issue for more than 10 years, yet some how they managed to hide it by geofencing out the areas of failure. Right now waymo pretty much does not operate in rain anymore. Waymo is just good at hiding any deficiencies they have and it becomes ugly when they come out.

It's funny because every city waymo operates has pretty bad flooding issues.

Tesla does not cross train tracks. There was a failure video of a waymo the other day where the waymo straight up wanted to pass a downed gate arm and drive right onto the train tracks.

here is waymo literally stuck on a train track

Tesla on the other hand seems to improve at a faster rate.

look at zoox. They have been doing unsupervised much longer than tesla and their driving does not appear to have gotten any better. The CEO said that tesla doesn't have a technology that works, and now tesla is dancing all over them.

people look at the news and they just simply don't understand how quick FSD reaction times are or the edge case safety that tesla really has. Tesla knows how good their safety is because they know what issues of consumer FSD are caused by people having dirty cameras (robotaxi has camera cleaning) or there is some mapping issue which you can obviously fix in robotaxi areas. With all the mechanical issues that consumer cars can have as well, it does show consumer self driving is not an easy or cheap thing to enable.
If you do a vote, would you send your kids in a Waymo or a Musk Robotaxi, I bet you a very significant majority will say Waymo. That shows you have much trust there is in Musk and Tesla. Musk lies a lot. Why doesn’t Tesla release in-redacted safety data like Waymo?

Sorry, it won’t work with just cameras and stupid it’s to believe that nonsense.

Waymo literally does not run in rain anymore. You are in california.

In all the other metros (texas, florida, georgia, etc.) they literally do not operate even in light rain/sprinkling weather

This is a recent change after a waymo got washed away for 4 days in san antonio and san antonio service was paused for 5 months. It seems to have started around late june, early july and happen still to this day.

There are some instances recently in austin where waymo was not out, yet robotaxi was operating and the rain was only light at best

Waymo has two separate software for remote ops. They have one which can move the cars by hinting where the car should go. That software seems to require that the car think that the hinted path is clear, meaning a remote operator cannot direct the car to run over something in its path. This is why waymo gets stuck in flood waters and can't move.

Waymo also has a remote driving function which can move the car at low speed using keyboard/mouse. Waymo likes to claim they do not remote drive the cars, so they are too proud to ever use this feature. Instead they'd rather rescue every stuck vehicle than do this.
Better than crashing into parked emergency vehicles or driving onto rail tracks….hahaha….

The vast majority don't know and they would care which robotaxi drives smoother. Smoothness gives people an impression of safety.

And it's not even a question which one is smoother

Not to forget the one which went straight for the trailer on the highway…..

Give me a break with this Waymo and flooding! Ghosh! Tesla fanboys will do anything to prop up their demigod.

This is a serious issue. In every metro that waymo has operated (LA, Phoenix, Austin, Atlanta, Dallas, etc.) they have been stuck in floodwaters.

Their remote driving software they refused to use would allow them to easily get out of this situation. They refuse to use it and the car just sits there for 15 mins until someone has to walk through the flood waters and rescue the vehicle. At which point the vehicle is also totaled because the water is often times higher than the doors.

That would only matter if tesla safety was somehow bad. But it seems to not be the case.

That's also evident by you bringing up archaic issues that happened with HW3 vehicles years ago

The fact that you have to reference years old issues with HW3 to find anything to complain about

here is an example of an easily drivable one that waymo is just stuck and they can't move the car

At least they put safety first unlike Tesla! Your argument reinforces the notion that Tesla doesn’t care about your safety. They just hype things up! Guess who takes liability if FSD crashes, those who paid fir the privilege to use it!

Call me when Tesla takes full liability for all crashes under FSD!

Typical Tesla cult response! I’m not wasting anymore time arguing with your biased nonsense!

As if you don't have clear bias an ignorance along with others in this forum?

you believe camera only they will hit a brick wall. Yet they operate 800 vehicles and have hit no brick wall.

It's also worth mentioning that how they perform today is the worst they will ever perform

There's a surprising amount of people online that straight up think that tesla 100% remote drives all their cars operating in the geofence at all times. Like FSD is a software that does not exist and you can literally go test one at any time without having to talk to someone.

It's all documented in the robotaxi tracker:

This is also well documented across reddit.

The week that tesla launched robotaxi in florida, waymo was down almost the entire week in miami and orlando due to rain. Keep in mind there was almost no rain at the time. It was simply a weather forecast of rain that kept them down.

Even when they used to run in rain there are instances of heavy rain where they pull over to the side of the road wait for it to clear.

This, for example is pushing the limit of any rain I think waymo can even operate in without pulling over

The thing about waymo is they push "fixes" for recalls like passing school buses, driving into floodwaters, etc. but these fixes seem to not work. It's like they actually can't fix these long standing issues
I'm not really sure what your aim is here. If your goal is to actually convince anyone of something, you might want to reconsider your rhetorical approach. Just to pick one example: you seem to consider every Waymo flaw evidence of some dishonest scheme on the part of Waymo, but autonomous driving is hard, Tesla has also struggled to fix numerous flaws, and so why aren't their struggles the same negative indicator you see in Waymo? Debates approached from the perspective of someone who has "drunk the kool-aide" are rarely convincing to those who have not. If you actually wish to convince, you might try a post that shows awareness and respect for the well considered arguments that don't agree with your viewpoint, and try addressing that skeptical viewpoint in a reasoned way. But even then, since this is neither a Tesla forum nor a Waymo forum, you've probably picked the wrong street corner to lay down your soapbox on.

Because with the exceptions of limitations of camera placement, tesla has been pretty fast at fixing issues.

The reason we give waymo a hard time is because they have been operating for 5 years with these supposed serious issues.

For example, waymo had hundreds of violations of blowing past school buses in 2026. How did they operate for 5 years with this issue and no one called it out before? And keep in mind all these waymo failures are 2026 level performance. What was it like in 2021?

Waymo representatives said "you can't expect perfection," when the whole point of using computers is to have perfection.

Let's up-level a bit:

> Is Waymo routing and dispatch perfect? No! I use Waymo for many years. There are issues with Waymo's routing/ mapping algorithms. Water hazard is one area Waymo can improve. In the Phoenix area, we have our monsoon season every year. Yes, cars, including Waymos, are subject to being trapped in high water. That said, during heavy rain these topographically low spots can be and should be mapped and geo-fenced to avoid.

> Has Waymo stopped dispatching cars when it rains? I have not seen any evidence of such. Regardless, it is prudent for Waymo to improve their routing to avoid mispahs.

> Between a Lidar-equipped vs a purely-camera-based FSD driverless car, I'd place my trust in the former.

> When it comes to Lidar-equipped cars, a Lucid is not a Waymo.
