After getting used to the base Surreal Sound, I sat in a showroom model with SSP, and something still seemed off, but maybe that’s my ears. The bass extension is markedly better with SSP, but the quiet of the laminated glass still messes with my left ear. With a stereo source the extra Atmos tweeter in the A pillar didn’t do much, and it still felt like sound mainly came from the windshield or console area more than I’d expect.
On YouTube, Savagegeese mentioned SSP tested well on paper, but there are no speakers directly facing you, and I think I get what they mean. Something still felt weird with the soundstage, probably a result of working with a glass spaceship. I’m used to door footwell speakers in economy cars, which are absent.
In the back seats of my base Surreal Sound, the front speakers project remarkably well and it sounds pretty decent, though the missing rear pillar speakers @kandid notes would probably help even more.
I switched to native Spotify instead of Carplay as @DDX and others suggested and I do think it’s less boomy on some tracks regardless of the in-app EQ! Thanks for the tip.
Anyway, since both SSP and base Surreal Sound lean so heavily on the front speakers (at least for stereo), I think that leaves bass extension as the main thing I notice is missing, and I’d probably be quite happy with a small aftermarket sub or maybe higher quality drivers.
Anyone know how/where to attach a (sub)woofer on the Gravity or where SSP puts extra woofers?
