Gravity DE Arbitration Victory

re; audi. audi bought back my etron gt after it was in the shop a while waiting for a new heater and some brake work. the dealer actually helped initiate the process and audi responded quickly and gave me an excellent refund. no hassles. so they can be good guys.
Yeah the service department initiated it themselves for me, then “the executives” (whom you don’t get to talk to or even know the names of) literally said “we do not believe it is eligible for repurchase” after almost 8 weeks in service. Lucid is a whole different company once things start going wrong for them.

Thanks for sharing your experience, lemon law arbitration is always interesting. Quite pleased to see that the arbitrator rejected Lucid's software argument. Don't build a software-defined vehicle if you won't want to be held responsible for that software.

This is fair. I think part of the problem with the Gravity rolling out with so many software issues is it probably makes it difficult for service centers to determine what is a software vs hardware issue. These are the kinds of things that I'd expect to be ironed out over time, but totally get why it's incredibly frustrating for owners who have had problems.

Mhh reading this while actually considering an lucid gravity grand touring to exchange my Audi etron makes me wonder.. In Germany I configured the GGT and it comes to 150.000 euro...which is quite expensive car. I paid 97000 for my etron. Leasing is not an option because the factor in Germany is ridiculous with 1.4... However all these issues here and there make me wonder if I should go for it or not... I did not have the test drive yet. Scheduled/planned for middle of may.
I planned the switch due to a 3rd kid being on the way and this would not work with my etron anymore..but I guess I would then give my wife the id buzz or the Mercedes VLE and I would keep my etron. So if we would alll have to go somewhere we would use the bus instead...🙈

is there service close to you?

Not sure if you would say close in terms of US measure :)
The next shop to take a look and buy the lucid gravity is 45 minutes and the service center is not there but 50 minutes away according to their own map.

Keep in mind that the negative experiences are amplified here. People who are happy with their cars are often just out driving, rather that hanging out writing happy posts here. But we do have plenty of happy Gravity owners on the forum. Also keep in mind that cars are complex objects, and all companies produce the occasional lemon (including Audi, as noted in other comments on this thread). Being a cautious buyer is always wise, but I wouldn't take this thread as evidence that you definitely shouldn't buy a Gravity. Especially since you'll be getting a vehicle after Lucid has already gone through some of the troubleshooting that many 1st year vehicles suffer through.

I’m here for a similar cause. I have to get a new car at the end of the year, so I am here to figure out what the common issues are, how prevalent they are, and if they would impact my enjoyment of the car.

Yes I know that usually only people who like to complain do so online. But the price is intense and I might get off with my etron and my wife having the bus. I already lost roughly 70k in four years in my etron...paid 97k and asked for an offer which was 27k... So that's really hard to get by and buy a brand new car for 150k 😅👌

Congrats on resolving this significant burden and getting your investment back.

I’m surprised you’re allowed to give so much detail about Lucid’s legal stance. One would think there is some confidentiality to these cases and buybacks. It was an arbitration case right? I didn’t think it was public record if so. But very helpful to know!
Typically they can only get a confidential outcome in a legal dispute if they offer you a settlement agreement that includes an non-disclosure clause. If they fight the case to the end, then they can't ask for confidentiality. Arbitration cases are typically not public, but they also don't impose a confidentiality requirements on the parties, so either side can decide to disclose if they wish.

I hear you. It's unfortunately typical for luxury EVs to lose value very rapidly. Here in the USA, the lease agreements specify a "residual value", the agreed upon value of the EV at the end of the lease. The consensus opinion here seems to be that the lease agreements have a higher end-of-lease value than the used car market will actually support, so if you only expect to keep the vehicle for a limited number of years, it's possibly financially advantageous to lease and let them deal with the high depreciation, rather than buy outright and be on the hook for the full drop in value yourself.

that's closer than a lot of us. It will almost certainly need service at least once.

I like the cars but the ownership experience is abysmal and it makes me disappointed. To this day nobody can pinpoint why some of us have absolutely terrible experience, and some have no issues at all!

  • Data Archiving: Saving every text, email, video , pic time stamp and work order to prove that Lucid was aware of defects they failed to document formally.
^This is the change so entrenched in modern car service, in my experience. Written communications are anathema to today's car repair. Any suspicion a company won't follow through requires screen prints, photographs proving dates, etc., before you click 'send' on some companies proprietary communication platform, or "app".

I know it wasn’t a good owner experience for this DE Gravity. But the majority of the issues are known ones, and ones that have been largely fixed by Lucid over the past 1+ year. It doesn’t seem like a true ‘lemon’, and by all accounts it may still be an amazing car.

So… does this mean there is a lightly used DE available for purchase? Just saying…

Yeah I understand.for my Audi the lease factor was 1.6 just way too high to consider. And then we had to pay in 2022 if we had too much money in the bank, negative interest. So I bought it. Now I pay the price. Would love to get the gravity based on specs and once sitting in the showroom in one of them. I hope I can get the test drive soon. In Germany it is currently only allowed for 4 hours because of the high demand they told me...🙈 however I would like more like two days or so..but so far no chance..

Ah OK yeah I thought so because the US is so much bigger. Ontnhe other hand there are not many in Germany :) to my Audi shop I also drive 35 minutes so it's fine I guess with 45.

Make sure the frunk works and the roof is on straight above the hatch and the key fob works before you sign anything.

On my 26 GT the main screen is peeling a bit too on the curve so check that too.

That's not a Lucid thing, that's an automaker thing in general. If they made the process easy then everyone would do it. It's a game of how much patience you have at the end of the day to start, get through and survive the process.
SO VERY VERY TRUE! IN 30 YEARS EVERY SINGLE MANUFACTURE I HAVE EVER WORKED WITH HAS HAD BUYBACKS... Some worse than others. But this is for sure a manufacturing thing.
