My current lease is up at the end of the year, and I need to get something different. So, I am in somewhat of a blue sky situation with the Gravity as one of my top contenders. I did my demo drive this week and really liked it, so next is to see what real owners think and think folks should look out for. This will be my 3rd BEV, and these are the highlights of what I am looking for:
  • Mid-sized, 2-row SUV or hatchback - I really only need something big enough to put my bike in back without removing the wheels
  • Sub 4-second 0-60 performance - What can I say, I am addicted to the rush of crazy acceleration
  • Very good audio system - I am ruined by the ultra premium audio systems
  • Luxurious interior design
  • Smooth ride - I prefer something that can absorb speed humps versus a sporty drive
  • Technology-forward
The car left a great impression, and here are a few of my initial thoughts and impressions:
  • I really do not like any of the colors, but I could live with the green. I really wish they carried over some of the Air's stunning exterior colors.
  • The interior (Tahoe leather) is beautiful.
  • The car did not look nearly as big as I expected it to. I do not want a 3-row SUV, and it looks and feels smaller than a typical 3-row.
  • The packaging is ridiculous genius, there is storage and passenger room aplenty.
  • The audio system was a letdown at $3,900. For that price, I expected something like the AKG Studio Reference, B&W, or Burmester systems, but it was more like a mid-tier Harmon Kardon.
  • The driving is just right - not sporty, but not lame, just like Goldilocks.
  • One Pedal Driving felt a little more aggressive than I like at the max setting, but the mid setting was too weak. I wish it had something in the middle, but I could get used to it.
  • When I had OPD set, it did OPD in reverse, which I do not like. I prefer cars that do not do OPD when in reverse.
  • There are no hard buttons for seat position memory, which kinda sucks when you have an occasional second driver and don't want to mess with profiles.
  • I did not get use the hands-free highway ADAS or HUD.
Questions:
  1. Is there a setting to turn off OPD when in reverse without turning off OPD overall?
  2. I have read several stories about poorly functioning fobs and phone as a key. How prevelant or serious is this? When I do runs or bike rides, I only carry my phone and depend on PaaK. If PaaK is not 100% reliable, that would be a huge problem for me.
  3. Is the audio system tunable to overcome the lack of bass and flat/dead mid-highs? It looks like it only has bass, mid, and trebble adjustments - no DSP stuff and no equalizer.
  4. It has highway hands-free ADAS, right?
  5. Does the HUD handle dual-screen projection from Apple CarPlay, for example, if I am using CarPlay, will it show any kinds of turn information in the HUD?
  6. Does it have native dash cam recording functionality (front and rear)?
  7. Any other thoughts or surprises that you would share with a Gravity newcomer?

1. No, OPD is basically a toggle with off/standard/high.
2. There is no PaaK currently so you have to use a fob or card until it's released (supposedly later this year). Or the remote start feature in the app but there's no way I'd rely on that 100% as it requires internet connectivity on both ends.
3. The adjustments for the audio are pretty basic but to my ears at least it sounds fine.
4. No, hands on only right now. Hands free is also coming later this year.
5. Nope, the CarPlay integration is basic and shares no information to/from the car so no navigation in the HUD and any map software in CarPlay doesn't know the state of charge, etc.
6. Basic (and beta version) dash cam if you honk but it does record all cameras (front/rear/sides).
7. Lucid has a bunch of "coming soon" functionality like PaaK, AR HUD features, more advanced ADAS. I'd spend some time researching the kinds of problems people run into on the forums here. I love my Gravity but they can be very Jekyll/Hyde as some people have cars that work great and some have cars that seem to be plagued with constant issues.

I'll second what @RandomDesign says. Personally I think the key fob problems are the biggest complaint that I can see among owners. Ours was hit or miss on working but lately the fob has been working well for me. I always carry the card with me and the card has never failed me (this is an NFC card the size of a credit card which you put against a spot on the B pillar on the drivers side to get access to the Gravity). The 3.5.1 version upgrade seems to be pretty stable except for the key fob problem. Other than the key fob problems we occasionally have we really like our Gravity Grand Touring and have taken it on a couple of 800 mile round trips without problems

Depending on how thorough you want to be with your research, I suggest you spend some time browsing the forum topics for additional info beyond your questions and initial impressions. Basically, your question #7 opens up all kinds of responses that you're not going to get in this single thread. There is so much to consider, depending on your level of intended research.

Consider using the search feature of the forum to narrow down results based on your questions.

Just a suggestion.

2. I run and cycle a lot, and strictly carry the phone with me. Using the phone to unlock or phone to remote drive the car has been 100% reliable for me. However, if you park somewhere with no reception, then I'd highly encourage you to carry the keycard. I've only once parking underground so far that both my phone and car had no reception, and which point I had to use the keycard to lock and unlock. The app sometimes it glitchy, and occasionally I have to force close it and reopen it to get it to work. Otherwise, I trust the phone's ability to unlock and enable the car to drive.

I also was looking for a midsized 2-row SUV. But there was nothing available that came close to Gravity's attributes, except the Cayenne Turbo EV at $80K more and with a somewhat old-school interior. So I ordered a 2-row Gravity, as it felt silly to haul around two extra seats. I have even more cargo room and it's more appropriate.

It's been great so far, a wonderful vehicle. Both of us are glad to own it.

Same situation as me. I have no use for a three row/7 seater but want good cargo room. The Gravity 5 seater is perfect and has more storage than I generally need, which works great for me.

The seat memory positions are stored in the seat control app in the lower screen where you also control the extra seat controls and massage. So its a 'soft' button.

Driver seat only has one memory position though IIRC, unless you set up a separate driver profile. The passenger seat allows for multiple stored profiles.

Gravity loaner I have is the perfect compact SUV size

Yep, clicking through this and the sub forums too. I like to also mix that with direct feedback. For example, I did not know there was no PaaK yet. I’m hopeful a lot of stuff like that gets cleared through the year. I figure I need to pull the trigger around October to ensure I get a car by the end of the year, if I need to order.

Considering you are looking at 7 months or so down the road, I would place a higher priority on the mechanical side of the equation. I truly believe that many of the software problems present today will be corrected that far down the road - except for the key gob (intentional mis-spelling) issue, which would become meaningless once we get PAAK.

Agree! Mechanically, I think the car is a total home run. It looks good (except for the colors), very luxurious inside, loaded with killer tech, insanely efficient, packaged by sages, possess killer driving dynamics, super quick, etc. They crushed 99% of what is important in a great car. I am just watching for that last pesky 1% over the next few months that could make or break a car.
  • Key fob unreliability
  • Arrival of PaaK
  • Door handle unreliability
  • Arrival of highway hands-free ADAS
I would love to see an improvement of the Surreal Sound Pro offering (either cut the price to like $1K or upgrade to the level of a competing $4K system) and external lock buttons. But, those are probably unlikely any time soon and I could live with it as it is.

And my other peeve, which I could totally live with as it is, is the silly staggered wheel setup. This is an SUV, almost a minivan. Why do they put staggered wheels instead of offering a square setup.

I agree, it creates a lot of problems - especially on 22/23 setups. Derek Jenkins said in one of the early interviews that it was solely for looks. I won't argue with the fantastic looks, however check out @Jackles wheels - the car can be awesome looking with a square setup.

...said the guy who is happy with his 22/23 setup. I bought the official winter wheel/tire package to handle winter. 🤪

I have never had a problem with my key fob or door handles. I updated my fob firmware and put in a new battery when as soon as brought the car home. I've been changing the battery once a month until I have more information. They're $1 and about ten seconds to change.

I think some of the ongoing fob issues are from people who haven't updated its firmware. Not all though.

Could you elaborate more about this? What external lock buttons you have on your mind?
Every other car I have seen recently with automatic locking and PaaK has some physical control on the door to lock. It lets you lock the door if you do not want to use automatic locking.

A separate, but related problem is that some cars with automatic locking and automatic unlocking do not behave well when parked at home. Ideally, you would want to be able to choose to not have the car lock when you are at home (my preference). Or alternatively, if you park in an unsecured area, you would want to choose to have the car stay locked while at home if you should happen to pass nearby from inside the house or moving around. My understanding is that the Gravity does neither, that you either have automatic locking always lock and automatic unlocking always unlock when it sees the fob or PaaK.

So, in my case, I need to turn off automatic locking so that it does not lock while I am at home, and then I manually lock the car as I walk away by touching the lock interface on the door. Without that physical, external lock interface, I would be forced to turn on automatic locking and deal with the inconvenience of always having the car locked while at home.

The door handles is one of the things I have read about a few times that is on my research list for prevalence and severity. What I have read is that sometimes only one of the door handles presents. Or some times the other three present but not the driver's door. And they are flimsy plastic. And sometimes the door handles do not retract after locking.

If you have passive locking turned off, you press in on the door handle to lock the car. Same for unlock.

We should have a forum poll for the door handle issues you mention, even though it wouldn't be a statistically valid sample. I'll bet that less than 1% of users have experienced it. After reading this forum extensively, I was prepared for all kinds of glitches with my Gravity, but have experienced few.

I'm not a fan of the feel of the door handles either, but not a big deal for us.
