Lucid Gravity
I did not find any details on this topic so thought of posting this to help new buyers with no support from Lucid Studio or sales.

I am from NJ so the local studio in the Mall of Short Hills in Summit was not able to negotiate sales due to NJ laws and I was assigned inside sales person from CA. This person had no clue about general leasing terms and did not know about the details on options like Towing Package. I was interested in the additional $3K discount so I selected what was available locally in Rutherford, NJ. This one was a basic Gravity touring without the towing package. We bike so this is where the trouble begin, I asked if they can add Towing Package, first the inside sales person said yes, then he came back and said it will be after delivery option and cost will be $1500. I asked for exact date when this can be done and can they do it before delivery, I was told that Rutherford does not have tool to install so they cannot tell me when it will be done !!! (I have it in an email).

I then chose to select a vehicle with package installed, to which the inside sales person said the one I selected was in Massachusetts and it does not qualify for $3K rebate as they cannot deliver it before 31st. So I chose the one in King of Prussia, PA about 75 miles from my place.

I picked up my Gravity yesterday and to my surprise the receiver was not installed on the car. Delivery person said, I need to pop open the screws remove the plate and install it myself as they did not have anyone available for few hours at the delivery center to install it for me. They gave me a ORIS receive which I have to pop it in and they charged me $750 fir the package.

My question to non towing package Gravity owners is that is your Gravity installed with the housing hardware and all you need is a receiver? If yes then anyone who only wants to use this feature for bike rack and hauling bike can buy ORIS receive for 20%-30% cost of and pop it in themselves and not worry about the electric connection and SW update. Also they informed me that towing package cannot be installed in Rutherford, NJ due to unavailability of the tool, if all Gravity's are shipped with the receiver housing hardware and all one needs to do is add eclectic harness and SW updated and get the 2" receiver then their staff does not know their own product, not sure what tools are needed unless they do not have spare harnesses!!

And then once you install the receiver it pops out and looks ugly. My 2023 eTron which I am returning has a receiver that is flushed to the body of the vehicle. See attached video fast forward to 3:45 and you will see what I am saying:

As far as I know, a Gravity without the towing package is missing the structural framework the receiver pops into, not just the electrical harness. There was discussion about this last year, and someone posted a photo of what was behind the panel of a Gravity without the Towing package, and there wasn't much there.

Thanks. I have seen the manual and the video I attached in original post has the same details. My only issue is it sticks out and if you leave it on then you lose the look of Gravity. I am going to see if I can get invisible receiver installed.

Question: when just attaching a bike rack to the receiver it seems it is not then necessary to activate "tow mode"....is that correct??

There's a slight variant of tow-mode: "Rear attachment mode", which will *may* turn on automatically...

Manual, Pg 116:

Rear Attachment Optimization

Activating Rear Attachment Optimization
will modify your DreamDrive
settings to accommodate rear-
mounted accessories. Rear Attachment
Optimization will automatically turn on if
the system detects that a rear-mounted
bike rack or cargo rack is connected.
To manually activate Rear Attachment
Optimization on the Pilot Panel, go to:

Settings > DreamDrive > Rear
Attachment Optimization.

Let us know what you find. The Tesla MX has the same type of detachable one and there's been some discussion about replacing it with a regular hitch receiver. I'm tempted to do so, but I assume I'd need to cut a hole in the bumper (assuming the license plate isn't in the way). Then maybe 3D print up a 3x3" cover?

I'm about to do a test tow with the receiver. I've used it with a bike rack and it appears to work fine. The first few times you install/remove the receiver it's a pain, but then it goes quickly once you know the best places to press and twist. I still miss having a fixed receiver though. Aside from aesthetics, I wonder why they went this way... same question about the curved sides of the liftgate (I've hit my head just once so far... now I duck, even with my Tesla).

On April 2nd our GT Gravity was picked up by a covered Lucid flatbed which left us a nice Air as a loaner. It was transported to the Riviera Service center in West Palm. The main task at hand was the installation of the towing package. In the interest of getting our Gravity sooner it was an option we decided to forgo. While in the SC several “campaigns” were performed. one was the ties on the seat harness and one was replacing the frunk struts. They also noticed a misbehaving assenger door handle and replaced all 4 doorhandles.
We were informed on 4/8 the car was ready and that a contractor would be scheduled to return it to us and pickup the loaner. Not wanting our Gravity transported on a contracted car carrier I asked if we could pick it up. So today we drove the loaner Air across the state and picked up our Gravity. Seamless service and everything is working well.
When we got home I installed the hitch just to see how it works. Once installed it is rock solid. They included two screw together links to make hooking up chains easier. Also there is a nice little plastic cover for the key hole. And Tow Mode now shows up on the Pilot panel.

Let us know what you find.

He has explained it in detail but once you get the installation, it is easier to install and remove. It foes look ugly installed on the car, I will post the pic of my etron with hitch recessed with the body of the car and Lucid Gravity sticking out
