Wireless CarPlay and iOS 18?

Is anyone successful with using CarPlay support and iOS 18? I can pair the device, but it never shows as CarPlay capable.

Wired works fine, automatically.

My husband's phone is on iOS 26 and works fine. I've been trying to avoid the upgrade because Apple beat it with the ugly stick and broke a lot of app usability.

Sorry, can’t help here as, for security alone, I always stay on latest iOS version.

I can sympathize with wanting to stay on iOS 18. Sorry to say - update to the latest iOS version.

I hate the “glass” look of iOS 26. What genius thought making things transparent was a good idea when you want to see what you are looking at?

Back to topic, you can stay behind only so long, so updating iOS is your only choice.

Random question but did you disable Siri at all? If so reenable it and try wireless CarPlay again.

I have Siri enabled but not Apple "Intelligence". I think it must be a versioning issue because wired works, and wireless says "pairing..." but connects Bluetooth and then just spins for a while. Ah well.

Apple used to provide security updates for years to older releases, and is still providing iOS 18 updates to devices that don't support 26. This is the first time they haven't offered it for other devices because they want everyone all in on the AI garbage.
