Lucid Begins Rolling Out Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to Gravity SUV

Lucid Motors said it has started rolling out support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to owners of the Lucid Gravity through an over-the-air software update.

The update is part of Lucid UX 3.5 and will initially be available to customers in North America starting Thursday, with availability expanding to Europe and the Middle East later this month, the company said.

Once installed, drivers will be able to connect smartphones via wireless or USB connection, allowing apps such as navigation, music, messaging and phone calls to appear directly on the vehicle’s infotainment display.

“Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are two of the most sought-after features by our customers,” said Emad Dlala. “We are now providing a seamless connection between mobile devices and the Lucid Gravity. We’re excited to introduce these features to Lucid Gravity, which now offers even greater comfort and convenience for owners.”

I'm dying to know how good the CarpPlay implementation is. Setting CarPlay Ultra aside, the best implementation of CarPlay includes battery SOC awareness and EV routing, navigation displayed in front of the driver and/or integrated into the HUD, the mic button mapped to Siri with a long-press, etc. It's rare for carmakers to maximize what's available.

It will not work until your car is upgraded to version 3.5.x. It was said to be rolling out Thursday but we haven't seen any reports of anyone getting it yet. The software updates usually roll over the period of a week or two. Hopefully you'll see it very soon. Your car and app will notify you when the update is ready to be installed after it has downloaded. After it's updated it will be rather clear how to connect your phone.
