Curious to hear from everyone — what made you choose Lucid over Tesla?

Speak truth, but there’s a time and a place. There are other threads for that, and that’s not the question that was asked.

I don’t show up at parties complaining about the host, or they are unlikely to invite me to the party again, because that would be, for lack of anything else, rude and impolite.

But you do you.

This was the question that was asked. I guess it may have been more polite to say I picked Lucid because it drives better, but the software is two steps behind. I’m not the OP who posted the comment, just playing devil’s advocate.
I see where you think it may be rude as it may prevent future official Lucid posts. But I don’t think I’d be afraid of not being invited to the “party” as a customer.

My Gravity is the first Lucid I have owned and I had never even seen a Lucid in real life until my Gravity was delivered. We had a Model Y and it was the most expensive cheap car I've ever owned. I always told people it was great computer and a horrible car thanks to the awful build quality. I had enough of the rattles, problems with the windows, stuff falling apart, and cramped size (for my family of 5). My other car is a BMW iX and that is the opposite of the Tesla - great car and bad computer - and has poor the packaging - it is a large vehicle but has no frunk and not a lot of interior space making it not work for trips with my entire family. WIth the Gravity, I feel like I have a great car and a decent computer that is on its way to becoming a great computer. Add in the incredible packaging and fast charging on Tesla and non-tesla DC fast chargers and we were sold. Even with the bugs we still see, it is my family's preferred vehicle. In two years, when we replace the iX, we'll definitely be looking at the soon-to-be-announced midsize.

Hey, Marqie! Just one look was all it took. And about a ten minute test drive. About the least researched and yet best purchase decisions I've ever made. Well into my third year, and loving it.

Again, I’m not the one who originally posted the comment. I think what made it polarizing was the question was posted by an official Lucid rep. If this question were included in a thread I started or anyone else the exact response to the same question would not have been even noticed, let alone called out as being rude or off topic. Every thread on here includes off topic items that may belong in other threads, but those are ignored. The more I read the responses, the more I realize it’s not about being polite/rude, or on topic, it’s about not wanting to upset an official Lucid representative, herd mentality at its greatest. I’m a newer member here and newer Lucid owner and I see this as very disappointing.

As a newer member, you may not know this but that Lucid official has been on this forum for almost five years and stated they had seen the comments from owners. So, any concern over upsetting them is a little too late. However, if you want to go with your theory about upsetting them and your disappointment, that's your right.

Going off topic happens on this forum all the time with owners. IMHO, a post/question by a Lucid official should be treated almost like a data request undeserving of crappy data submissions. A post /question by an owner is given leeway because we're owners and understand the nature of our comments. Therefore, off topic comments are tolerated as part of owner discussion.

I have personally upset @marqie more than once, I’m sure. It is not about not upsetting them, but about answering the question they asked. This is a celebratory post. That is the topic, clearly. There are plenty of threads for non-celebratory comments; I know @marqie reads those too. But, to be clear: if this had been a Tesla owner who was unhappy with their choice of a Lucid, I’d not have said anything, as at least it would be on topic.

Picked Lucid because I wanted luxury, a drivers car, an engineering marvel, better quality, better looks and of course, hated the CEO of Tesla and his cult, I’m not giving him another dollar!

I wanted a replacement for our Model X (and Volvo XC90 Hybrid). I test drove both the latest Model X and Gravity. In priority order for me:

1. Range for road trips and charging speed. 100 miles more with the Gravity than Tesla. 800V architecture. Access to Tesla supercharger network. Charge port in the right place so that I don’t have to take up two stalls.
2. Passenger and cargo space. No comparison. Third row is actually usable and comfortable for big adults. As much cargo space as the 2 foot longer competitor EV’s.
3. Luxury, quiet, and smooth ride. Build quality. Top-of-the-line Tesla still feels cheap.
4. Performance and handling. Just because I need to haul my family around doesn’t mean I don’t want to have fun when I’m driving alone. Model X Plaid wins on 0-60, but my GDE is no slouch. The power, suspension/drive system, and tuning of the Gravity beats most sports sedans. OK, I gave up a little bit of range for the DE .
5. Self driving (potential). Tesla FSD is in a league of their own, no question. DDPro is good enough for now. Gravity has more cameras, plus ladar, radar and sonar. Betting that Lucid will eventually be better.
6. OTA updates. Software defines the vehicle as much as the hardware. Tesla wins, no question. Yes, I knew about all the software problems before purchase. Almost postponed my purchase. Glad I didn’t - there is so much to enjoy. I have faith Lucid will get better.
7. Stalks and physical controls! Enough said.
8. V2H (potential). Power outages are no longer rare. Three AC outlets in the Gravity!
9. I didn’t want my new car to be vandalized because of politics.
10. Tray tables. Huge hit.

What makes me choose Lucid over Tesla?
Well, Tesla has never been in my consideration and I suspect I may not be the only one in this camp.
We had been consumers of domestic brands with Mercury Sable and Chrysler Town & Country being the last ones bought in the 80s.
Since then, German and Japanese brands had been capturing our attention until Lucid came along.
So what make us choose Lucid over MB, BMW, Lexus and the likes?
The design, the handling, the space management, and the engineering innovations were among the features that led us to purchase the Air and then the Gravity.
The professionalism and the personal touches from the local studio and service center have certainly added to the overall experience.

That was one thing that really swayed me. I got a $100k Model S Performance as a loaner and the interior felt exactly like my 35k Model 3.

We wanted our first EV, wanted it to be a ground-up design for EV, but didn't even look at Tesla really. It feels like Tesla designs vehicles to amuse themselves and customers just need to get on board with their decisions. Lucid felt like a company that was designing vehicles to see just how great an EV could be. From Chip and Matthew in Roswell to Jason in Charlotte, I've spoken with some great Lucid employees who seemed fully invested in making sure my wife and I loved the Gravity and had a good experience with it. I can't tell you how important that attitude is in winning over and retaining customers. Wishing you guys all the best.

My wife has had a Model 3 Performance and Model Y Performance. We jumped to a Polestar 3 when she chose to abandon Tesla over Elon's antics. Midsize is the anticipated replacement for the Polestar 14 months from now.

The Model Y was our backup during the first few "bad software" months of the Polestar, but she drove a loaner and I parked my Durango Hellcat and drove the MY, since the lease wasn't up yet. I had an early order for a Gravity since the order bank was opened - there was no 3 row, huge horsepower alternative to the DDHC anywhere in the market place, and there still isn't, outside of the Gravity. If Tesla had put out a real, extended wheelbase 3-row replacement to the DDHC, I would have looked - silly not to look - but when production started, there was no question it was time to get in line for the Gravity. My son drives the DDHC and we'll keep it in the family - we're in Detroit, after all...

A quick look into my evaluation of the Gravity. Third party. ALL of my decision was based on 3rd party reviews, a fair understanding of automobile design and manufacturing, and being an early adopter. I had never seen a real Gravity, never sat in one, never drove one. The engineering innovations, the background in Formula E (Gen 2) electric vehicle racing motors as Atieva, Rawlinson's background and experience in bringing a car to market from scratch, all convinced me the car is the real thing.

I've never looked back - except at someone stupid enough to think they can out-accelerate me on Woodward Avenue...

Perhaps @marqie would be interested why, as a Tesla owner, you are active on the Lucid forum, especially this thread? That would certainly go to the OP's original question. Are you a potential buyer? What do you take into account before you choose another Tesla or switch to Lucid?

Good question and I sent a pm to the OP about why. I test drove a Gravity GT and Air GT last week.

Your response has nothing to do with how a thread gets so sidetrack and can be a turnoff for a potential new buyer, especially the ones like me who still likes their Model S, but also really like Lucid. There are plenty of other threads on this forum that talk about the same responses over and over again. Can get to be a turnoff for someone that is not turned off by Tesla, but also intrigued and is interested in getting a Lucid. So, hopefully that explains why me and other potential new buyers are active on a Lucid forum. Really don’t understand why I need to explain that though, as I would not waste my time being on any forum reading about something that I would not be interested in.
