It’s been a long time since any meaningful news on the mid size has been released. Anyone hear anything new?

With the R2 launching now, it’s strange to hear nothing from Lucid. It’s a massive market and it feels like they are ceding 2026 first mover entirely to Rivian and maybe Volvo.

At this point, I would not expect the launch until 2027. We’ve known MUCH more about the R2 for the past 1+ year and it’s finally launching. To me, hearing almost nothing about the mid size from Lucid means it’s a 2027 launch.
 
I was thinking the same... There's an OOS video from today talking about the R2 and the crowded space it'll launch into, with the BMW iX3 being the strongest player in the segment. The Earth will be kinda late if it launches in 2027

R2 is lazy designing, a mini me of the R1. And those lights! Lucid should just do their own thing.

I agree I don’t like the look of the r2 either. But it’s got so much buzz I feel like the lucid mid size will be an afterthought.
 
Highlander EV was announced today as well. Lucid needs to provide a meaningful update.

They may not be trying to compete with Rivian, but customers definitely compare them. Certainly I looked at R1S. And while it’s too big and boxy for my liking, it was a three row ‘premium’ EV suv that wasn’t a Tesla, and it was worth looking at.

I suspect people in the market for a mid size performance EV suv will look at the R2 , EX60, and iX3, and at this stage, have no idea that Lucid is planning to produce a better option.

I’d be more concerned that Toyota just announced the new Highlander is all electric.

I thought Saudi Arabia will produce the midsize first due to the unpredictability of the US tariff war (rates keep changing and could go to 100% at any time):

 
My understanding is they plan to build in SA first and import these Saudi built vehicles to the US. This will allow the use of Chinese battery packs (and other components). Building in SA will bypass the high tariffs that would be imposed on those Chinese components if the vehicles were built in the US.
 
The Rivian R2 looks amazing but for an all new model the charging capabilities are horrible. Hopefully Lucid being one of the last in this midsize segment will have a very strong contender. Lucid please don’t put UX4 in it and put phone key on day 1.

I agree. The charging maxing out at 220kW is surprising as this was a very noticeable weakness of R1S. Also it seems the max range will be just above 300 for the single motor version. Not terrible but very blah vs other models coming out.

Similar to R1S, R2 will sell a lot based on their brand and what people ‘want’ to feel like driving it. But the actual performance may be a lot less exciting, especially their base $45k version. The ones in these early reviews are definitely $60k+ launch trims. Still, they’ll probably do pretty well this year.
 
I'll probably cross shop the R2 when my Air lease is out in a couple of years. Honestly, I'm excited about where it looks like we will be in a year or two here. Lucid Midsized, R2, Mercedes CLA, Volvo EX60, iX3... these are a lot of interesting options, in many cases with better architectures and features than were previously available at the "mainstream new car" level. It's a challenge for Lucid, I mean, I got the Air because it seemed to me that its combination of range, quick charging, and driving dynamics were unique in the marketplace. I was willing to take some early/mid adopter risk for that. Midsized will need to come in without software gremlins and preserving Lucid's strengths to compete against a much broader class of roughly comparable cars.
 
They got their hands full right now and have seem to really shifted to focusing on fixing software, which is IMO a good thing before you go mass market.

With that said, they really should be teasing something at the very least to keep people waiting. With the segment getting so competitive and all the upcoming promise, IMO the Volvo EX60 will be the closest we'll have to a Lucid Earth for the foreseeable future. I'm a Rivian fan myself, but the R2 is for a different person than someone who would want the Earth. Adventure versus Luxury. While I like the R2 and think it will be great for most, I'd hold off on the Earth if Lucid can at least hint at what is to come with their midsize offering since lately I've been prioritizing luxury items over a more rugged interior so I think the Earth will speak more to me.
 
To put it in a little better perspective, R2 was first revealed around the same time Gravity was first revealed. Gravity has been in production and delivering for a year now. Not comparing the two vehicles, but more the reveal to production timeline. Lucid’s midsize (still officially unnamed) will be revealed soon in 2026 and production to begin this same year.

I'd have already bought an EX60 cross country (400 mile range and Google maps/apps), but it's likely 18 months away in the USA. So I pivoted back and ordered a Gravity after I saw that Lucid was making meaningful improvements in its software.
