So has anyone had this issue, and if so, how has it been solved (if it has)? We have had our Gravity for less than 4 weeks. Already we have been unable to start the car and reboot twice within the last week with all the screens being blank. With the Air, a quick reboot has always worked. With the Gravity, not so much. The first time a week ago, my wife was stranded at Costco for a few hours. I told her how to do the hard reboot, but nothing. Dead screens. I drove over thinking she was doing it wrong, same thing. Moved Costco groceries into the Air, Called for a tow. My wife went to a walk as the tow was 30+ minutes out. I sat there trying to reboot and after about 10’ of holding the buttons, the screens finally came on. Cancelled the tow. This morning, the same thing happened. My wife was trying to leave. Screens are blank.we spent 15’ trying to reboot. Nothing. Had her take the Air to work. I sat in the car for about 10’ more holding the reboot buttons before the screens finally came to life. is this normal? Does it really take 10-15’ holding buttons for the Gravity to respond? This car is just not reliable. This is in addition to the car constantly being offline when away from the house, the key cards refusing to unlock the car for several minutes, the key cards not working to drive (exit, lock, unlock, try again… really???. Took me 15’ once to unlock the car with the card key and drive away), homelink setup not working (car beeps, lights flash but the pilot panel says waiting for signal, so cannot connect the garage door). My wife is completely frustrated now with her new car.

Try walking away to let the car sleep for a few minutes and go back to it. That usually works for the black screens.
I had the same issue with homelink, but I was able to get it to connect by following the advice on the homelink thread. If I remember correctly, it takes to get new batteries in the remote and point it just under the L, holding it very close.
Hope this helps!

You may want to take the time to read the entire Bugs & issues thread on here...might save you some headaches and improve your interactions with the service center

Yes. All 200+ pages worth. Well aware of the threads as I have been on here since almost the beginning. I see the Gravity is as buggy as the Air was when it was delivered to me 4 years ago. Seriously, I have searched that thread for specific bugs. I can also find the corrections to the manual there as well. It's a joy.

Nope. That was the first thing my wife tried. She locked the car and went over to Panda Express to eat. Came back and same issue. By then I was reachable by phone and I told her how to do the hard reboot. Of course that die not work. Even today, after my wife switched cars, I came back into the house and ate breakfast before attempting the reboot of the death screens. It had not reset with the walk away. Sat in the car for about 10' holding the reboot until the screens finally came on. This should not be the case (It is not with our Air). Makes my wife not want to drive her car now.

As for homelink, yes. I too went to that thread after spending an inordinate amount of time with it. The location to place the remote is on the wrong side of the car in the manual. Was always using the drivers side, per manual. Yes, the remote had fresh batteries. We have two remotes. Tried both. Works when the the remote is on the passenger's side headlight. Just sloppy documentation and software all the way around.

I find it off odd and possibly a human defense mechanism that we attribute everything to software. A lot of this could be junk hard ware too. I think we want to believe the optimistic approach that software will fix everything.two simple examples.
A. The home line has such poor strength . If the car is even 5 feet way with the head facing away like when u exit the garage if parked head outwards then the home link signal barely works
B. The microphone on the gravity is again probably junk hardware that its barely audible

Not to mention the dismal quality heads up display.the lack of bass still in the stereo, the motor noise of the seats ,the poor self closing door mechanism…..

Driving dynamics for me is the only true exceptional feature which also is moot if the car wont start.

re: "B."
I think it's clear from discussions on here the microphone is not indeed a hardware issue as several posters report it works just fine w/ WhatsApp
YMMV

My condolences on the eventually murder of you by your wife. This is exactly why I couldn’t get one for my wife.

None of my business, but I'd drive the car myself until the time comes when it works reliably.

Whatsapp and FaceTime are using the phone microphone and not the one in the car. That’s why it’s audible

I have taken phone, teams, and zoom calls and have had no problems with my Gravity’s mic. I used to ask if people can hear me ok because I was concerned about the mic, but the response has always been I’m coming in crystal clear and I’ve stopped asking.

I've also experienced the same.
Didn't time it, but for sure I was stepping on the brake and holding X and mic buttons for at least 5 minutes.

@Sandvinsd
You probably already tried this, but have you replaced the fob battery since this started happening? I have noticed quit a few members who have had their cars for about a month, including me, have had their first black screen issues. I had some other misbehavior also. I have been carefully documenting the fob voltage as the battery ages. Others have noted that removing the battery and reinstalling works for them. They figured the fob was rebooting as it most certainly was. However, I have found that the battery dramatically recovers after only a few minutes out of the fob. This recovery is extremely misleading however. Given about 5 minutes the battery voltage may climb from not working at 2.8V to ~2.85V where it probably will work to open the car and continues to climb overnight to ~2.9V. Once you use it though the voltage will quickly drop. This may give you another week or two. but may cause other problems.

I have a theory that after opening the car the battery continues to communicate with the car but the battery is not up to the task and the cars software misinterprets the messages or crashes trying to. That may explain drivers seat reclining, black screens, setting change issues and other weird goings on that seem to have a monthly or software update cycle which is similar to the battery life.

Just a theory

I'm still experimenting, but if my wife could drive it would only be with a battery 3.0V or above.
