Gravity Bugs / Issues

I know this is going to rub many people the wrong way - I understand the vehicle has problems, I know, I know - but, for things such as easy entry/exit, DDP, HVAC controls, app not connecting - isn't it probably easier and would certainly use less emotional energy to just put up with these sorts of problems until the next software issue is released?

Hardware issues, I understand - only the SC can fix a steering wheel - but, if the easy entry system doesn't start working after a reset, perhaps it simply isn't going to work until it is addressed in a future software update and you should turn it off.

It seems to me that the more exotic features such as HUD, DDP, Vibes, the frunk taking two tries to open ("Oh my!") Dolby Atmos, etc. are simply not dialed in yet - by the way, these are first world problems - so perhaps our voices could be best spent describing the issues that affect our everyday use of the vehicle - fob eating batteries, windows that don't go up, screens that go black while driving.

Please don't slam me for having an opinion, but feel free to describe what your opinion is on what Lucid could do to best allow its existing customers to have full faith and confidence that the car will do the simplest of things - get me safely and reliably to my destination and back.

It appears that the forum has attained enough credibility to be considered important by Lucid employees - let's give them some concrete, prioritized things that affect our daily lives. It worked with my Polestar, I'm even more convinced it will work with Lucid.

I get what you're suggesting.
It makes logical sense.
Your suggestions summons the spirit of Mr. Spock, from the original Star Trek series.
You're talking to humans here and human actions don't always make logical sense.

For probably a good number of members, this forum is more than a place for providing input for Lucid employees.
In some ways it is also a support group or therapy sessions where people express opinions rooted in emotions/feelings, as well as factual experiences.
Purchases are emotional decisions for some and when the ownership experience after that purchase isn't what they expected, emotions come through.
Add in the possible reality that the purchase price might be stretching the budget of some owners, and the emotions rise more (thus the statements about how much the car costs).
If someone has a problem, knowing that others have that same experience, provides opportunities for further expressions.
Lucid knows the severity of the issues, but for some owners, it's not just about Lucid knowing, it's the personal expression.

Facts about an issue can be posted here, but that doesn't mean a large number of owners aren't going to share their similar experience.
And that probably won't change for some until that experience changes.
Even after it changes/improves, there will be reminders of past experiences with the issues.
Not traumatizing for some, but an unpleasant experience that stays with them.

There's an element of patience required in your suggestion.
The patience to "put up with" not having access to something purchased.
Some have that patience, some don't.
Thus the existence of the forum (aka support group, therapy sessions, doctor's office, etc.)

Agreed. I have had my GGT for little over month. Only one mechanical issue - second row does not fold forward without a little human assistance. Many come and go software issues. I have not waisted my time with calling customer service or scheduling service. If software issues are not significantly resolved by time I get back from long out of country trip in February, I plan on hounding customer service and scheduling service for second row issue and check if any of my software issues are hardware related.

Latest issue. I have been reading people complaining about poor cameras and poor night surround/backup camera visibility. Even though I noticed it not being great, thought it was somewhat OK. Well NO MORE. Last night was trying to parallel park at sisters house in old dimly lit neighborhood. Pulled up the surround cameras and they were totally useless - just black all around car. Proceeded to curb rash the front wheel. (also, that promised anti-curb rash feature would have been nice.)

Then on way home later that night, the blind spot cameras stopped working.

But oh how wonderful the car is to drive. Hopefully it and I will survive until these issues are resolved.

The problem is that Lucid literally promised the Gravity would be ready to roll and not a duplicate of the Air llaunch, however, it was worse.

Things they explicitly said were not working are fine, consumer understand that. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, hands free DreamDrive, AR HUD, all clearly indicated future releases.

However. The problems of doors not opening and closing, fobs not working, HVAC not working, lights not working, interior floor not looking like the pics, janky 7th row, etc etc-none of these were disclosed as “future releases”.

Somewhere the decision was made to release the Gravity knowing full well it wasn’t ready to deliver. It backfired. Service is overwhelmed, the company is embarrassed; they’ve lost 90% of their value and it might just be a death bell for them.

Having said that, I think they fired everyone related to that decision. Their biggest investor is PIF and they haven’t done anything to indicate they’re killing it.

Also I cannot afford the Taycan I want, and I hate Tesla, so, I hope it works out 😂

Not to diminish the problems with Gravity but this simply is not true. The initial Air roll out was a disaster with supply constraints on DE and Santa Cruz carpet. Enormous panel gaps, pieces missing glue from the factory, misalignment between trunk and body due to trunk curing process, trunk rubbing on bumper, battery replacmente and shock and tilt alarms going off during level 2 charging. My Air was in for service once a month for the first 10 months I owned. My Gravity has only a few problems that I expect will be fully resolved at my first service.

Its fair to say the Air set a rather low bar, but it is not correct to say that Gravity is worse.

Four years into owning my Lucid Air dream edition, I don’t really remember similar problems problems like you had. Yes, there were some cosmetic problems and also a few years down the road I had to replace the battery pack, but overall in retrospect it was not any worse than the Gravity rollout. I haven’t had to take the Gravity back to the service center for anything. I’m sure some hardware issues will crop up, but so far, so good.

Oh, and with the Gravity, unfortunately, it’s hard to tell right now what are hardware or software problems.

No, it wasn’t. The Gravity launch had/has plenty of issues, but it is still orders of magnitude better than the Air when it launched.

I am quite certain that four years from now nobody will remember the Gravity launch issues either; over time, things improve, and as they do, people’s memories of issues fade into the background and they just enjoy the car. (I’m not saying you’re lying; you may have just been lucky, similar to how I am with our Gravity DE)

I had plenty of issues with the Air. 1.0.4 was literally trash. I told them they had a year before I sold the car.

They improved it. Now my car is great.

what your opinion is on what Lucid could do to best allow its existing customers to have full faith and confidence that the car will do the simplest of things - get me safely and reliably to my destination and back.
Based on this low bar, minimalist, spartan expectation Lucid doesn't have to do anything, especially for existing customers, who's checks already cleared. My car drives and wheels stay on, so job well done Lucid, keep working on your next product.
For new, still undecided customers, Lucid can try to be honest for a change and make a new commercial where Timothée Chalamet pretends to be a minimalist, disables all features in the car, including HVAC and drives around winter setting with windows open, wearing parka, snot frozen on his smiling face. Maybe also add a real estate commercial from Arizona, suggesting that people should not be living where car windows get frozen.

Jokes aside, everyone who paid over 100k for a luxury car after explicit public promises made by a respectable CEO that no compromises would be allowed deserves to say whatever they want about their car on the Internet. That should not affect Lucid's ability to prioritize fixes.

I concede.

Now, wasn't that more fun, at least for one day!

Okay. On topic. Anyone figured out why car goes offline in app and/or how to get it back online?

Wasn’t an issue at all for several months, and then recently, (pre and post 3.3.20) randomly goes offline at most inopportune time. Doesn’t matter if it’s on WiFi, not WiFi, etc…

Major issue for me as I use creature comfort daily with our dog and like to check to make sure it’s on.

Eventually, it comes back online. Could be a day, several days. Resets don’t matter.

this is probably an issue with Lucid's provider or their configuration then, right? They use a third party I'm sure. And not a very good one, hence the slow wake ups

Remove your saved wifi completely and give that a try. After seeing people have random issues with connecting to the car when it was on wifi I decided to never connect my car to wifi anywhere. So far I've only had problems connecting once and even then I could connect but just not see the live view of the cameras. I didn't think much of it though as I was out in a more rural area where cell reception was spotty already.

Maybe. But car wakes up quickly when online. I am talking about when I open app and get the “vehicle offline” message. It’s just totally not responsive - not taking a while to wake up. If it were Lucid’s provider, it would happen to everyone or more people more often.

Also, their “provider” for LTE is AT&T, like Tesla, and that’s not an issue for our X. Maybe you mean Lucid servers? No idea who they use, but it must be AWS or Google.

Did you try just turning the WiFi off? Do I need to actually “forget” the WiFi? Seems extreme, but willing to try!

I mean their 3rd party authentication/app service provider

This thread is too damn long so I’m not sure if this has been posted in here before but I’m going to save you and service a headache if this happens to you, because I REALLY thought this was a hardware failure needing service, but nope, software Satan gave us another present!

My left rear door passenger handle completely quit, like just dead. So I got in the car, and it said air suspension leveling reduced, also got a rear steering not available fault, dream drive wouldn’t work, child lock failed, etc. I also couldn’t open left rear passenger door from the inside unless I double pulled to the second detente (you’ll see some upset people on Reddit and Facebook over this one). I attempted two double chime steering wheel reboots 1 hour apart and no luck, still no door handle, still air suspension and rear steering faults, no drive assist.

So then I waited 2 hours, and used the app only without unlocking the car and used the app to adjust the ride height…and it worked. Then I used the app to unlock the doors and ALL door handles presented flawlessly. Then I got in the car, and totally error free (aside from the damn lucid vibe color reverting to zen). So it appears the door handle failure, rear steering failure, and air suspension failure were all just a software glitch. I notified Lucid of this as well via the email Winteroff sent out. Here’s the pic of the errors.

Just got back from running an errand and I was silently rumiating and complaining about the cameras. I can deal with the poor quality during the day, but at night they become unusable if it is dark, just when you need them the most, specially the back up one.
