I never use my car's nav, because I find using nav through car play to be much better. I would like the convenience of using the in-car nav, but my impression is that none of the in-car nav systems can match the online systems. Is that true? I mean, I understand that the HERE maps/nav is deeply flawed, but are any of the in car systems as capable as online systems?
Any car that uses native Google maps, or at least Google's "Places" database, will be far superior to HERE.
Maybe HERE works reasonably well in Europe, where it is based. It's miserable in the USA.
Many, many automakers have already switched to using native Google Maps or Places. It's notable that Porsche and Mercedes are in the process of switching away from HERE, to Google - even though VW and Mercedes are part owners of HERE. I suspect that Lucid will be one of the last to switch away from HERE, if ever. After having a number of serious problems with HERE maps in my Air, in ways that have been personally expensive, I will avoid it in future car purchases.
Native Google Maps is already in place in newer models from Volvo, Polestar, GM (Chevrolet, GMC, Cadillac), Ford, Honda, Nissan, Renault, Lincoln, Mitsubishi, Acura.
Hyundai, Kia, Genesis are using Places API for richer points-of-interest data in their current nav systems and are moving towards Android Automotive with native Google maps.
Rivian is using the
Google Maps Auto SDK to build their own custom navigation experience powered by Google Maps.
