Auto Open Seems Improved...

I was reluctant to report this until I had more data points... I'm still on 2.8.16 and have found that the auto-open lag time seems to be considerably improved. Not that the lag is completely gone, but the car seems to unlock within a second or two of reaching the car, and in a few cases has actually unlocked as I was approaching the car. (There still seems to be an inordinate delay when returning to the car after a short trip away, like a trip into a restaurant or store, which I'm guessing reflects the developers fear that the car will inadvertently unlock as one is walking by. I wish they would dismiss that concern, as the flawless auto-close feature would effectively handle that risk.) Not perfect, but much better IMO!

I think you are right. I also changed my behavior a bit, following the suggestion by somebody's comment here, so it might have changed what I see. I now take my phone out of my pocket while approaching the car.

Yes if you wake your phone as you're approaching it's usually much faster. That said I still have those moments where I'm constantly walking past my car in the garage to get something, the darn thing is locking unlocking like 20 times to the point it times out, and then I'm out and can't get into my car without waiting 30 seconds as I try to play it off like I'm reading something on my phone, not getting locked out of my luxury vehicle.

This is the reason I have auto-lock turned off. My workbench and workout cage are near my car, and the lock/unlock thing would drive me crazy.

I tend to use my frunk quite a bit. So I’ve gotten into the habit of opening the app, tapping the frunk button, and by the time I get to the car, the car is awake, the frunk is open, and the car unlocks on its own just fine.

Having said that, even when I am not using the frunk, if I just walk up to the car, I do find that the car will open a few seconds after I reach the car. If it isn’t unlocked already.

I do think they’ve made progress on the mobile key, in other words. But it could always be better, of course.

This exactly. The car is either open when I reach it (75% of the time) or opens within 3-5 seconds. I use FOB only--no PAAK enabled.
