I posted this in another thread. I was able to see the HUD in the Porsche Cayenne. I was so surprised as I cannot see in the Volvo. Unsure how they solved for that.

The HUD and sunglasses use linear polarizing, they just lined up the polarization for the HUD at a different angle. If I remember correctly Audi does that as well. There are also some sunglasses with the polarizing done at different angles but it's not something they usually list in the specs.

We can see it fine in our Porsche Macan EV too. It's about half the brightness w/o sunglasses, but that's to be expected. We can still see it fine though.

In the Gravity it almost entirely disappears. If I move my head down to just the right spot, a little hint of it is visible but way too faint to be of any use.

I assume they'll be doing something to fix this because right now it's entirely useless and a waste of money. People wear sunglasses while driving in daylight. It's so bad that I could see someone taking legal action down the road if they don't fix it. But I assume they will.
 
Not sure it can be fixed in existing car without replacing the hardware. Different story for new vehicles.
 
Anyone else still having random “vehicle offline” issues with the app? Car has no issue connecting to WiFi or lte so no issue with in car feature issues. Just the app won’t connect. Mine has been offline for 1.5 days except for an hour or so. Doesn’t matter if it’s WiFi, lte, etc.

Only had it happen once shortly after updating to 3.3.20 but has been solid since.

Mine has been offline for days now, but it will show up once the car gets home and on wifi.
But even when I turn wifi off in the car, it still will not show up in the app

I can’t seem to figure out what causes mine. It’s not consistent. It’s happened several times over the past month or so (on 3.3.9 and 3.3.20). I guess it will reconnect at some point.

Mine did that earlier today while I was charging at a Supercharger.
 
Does Live View work for anybody? Mine just sits there connecting forever with the circle of death.

Does it require a higher Dream drive package?
 
I have a very limited amount of time with it (only took delivery Friday afternoon) but so far it's worked all but one time I tried and that one time I closed and reopened the app and then it worked. I've checked it quite a few times though, especially showing the functionality to other people.

Also, it doesn't work when charging. That's just a current limitation of it.

Make sure you’re not on WiFi. Here’s mine now, albeit in a dark garage at home

To me the time I’m charging on a trip is the most important time to connect to see charge progress while I’m away, usually eating. So this is not just inconvenient.

I was having a hard time telling the first time I tested it (it's hard to move that slider without looking at it, but I need to be watching the HUD to see if it actually changes brightness). But I tried in again last night and could actually see the brightness changing. So mine is "working". It just doesn't go bright enough to be seen with sunglasses, making it worthless for daytime driving as it stands now. Complete waste of money until they fix that.

Are you using non-polarized sunglasses? Polarized sunglasses (which most are these days) will block the HUD display.

True aviator sunglasses are non-polarized, as pilots have the same issue with seeing instrument readouts. (RayBan makes a line of non-polarized aviator sunglasses.)

We use visor clips to hold sunglasses in our Gravities: polarized on the passenger visor and non-polarized on the driver visor. Otherwise it can get confusing.

They're probably polarized (prescription). They work just fine to see the (far superior) HUD in our Porsche Macan EV. It's dimmer with the sunglasses, of course, but still bright enough to see fine.

The Gravity HUD not only has horrible viewing angles (can barely move your head 2" or else it goes away), it's not bright enough to be seen with sunglasses. I can barely make out a faint image with the sunglasses on. If they just allow it to go way brighter (and fix the angles/focal points), it should be workable.

I had to adjust the brightness of mine yesterday and it worked fine.

More general comments on the HUD (not explicitly in response to @hmp10):

While the HUD doesn't have any of the AR features I remember seeing in a promo video for the Gravity, it has worked well for me since they added control over the positioning on the windshield.

Anyone expecting a software update to change the polarizing will be waiting indefinitely. I bought new non-polarized sunglasses for Gravity and instantly had a visible HUD. If you can't see the HUD with your current sunglasses, do yourself a favor and buy non-polarized sunglasses. Anything short of this is will just lead to frustration.

Where do you buy the membership, on the Tesla app? Or the Lucid app? This would be good to set up before embarking on my next road trip. Thanks
