Gravity road trip charging

Our GTT had rapid production. It started Nov 3 or 5 and Nov 12 was finished and in factory quality control.

So now have ~1500 mile road trip ~one week after delivery! Have tripped with our AGT - but the plug type made finding chargers easy - most hotels called it ‘standard’. No one said “not NACS” they said we have “not Tesla” or “the other”

In the past Tesla life, we stop at hotels with chargers - Tesla destination chargers have generations unmarked and unknown to the hotels ( a 2020 Tesla MS does not charge at most older Tesla chargers!) It took a year for Tesla to acknowledge this and luck to get serial numbers for those that work.

Friends thoughts on trip include words like Stupid, brave, confident, overconfident, etc. plus ignorant. But we are not shipping.

Please educate me:

What do we have to do to pick hotel with working AC charger for overnight Gravity charge 10-90%?

I know fast DC (EA, certain superchargers and others ) are more easily identified. But hotel staff sometimes just know they have a ’tesla charger’ and/or a ‘regular’ one.
 
You can use the Plugshare app to see what type of charger each location has

But many hotels do not list their chargers with Plugshare, IME.

Also, hotel staff usually knows less than zero about their chargers, and you almost always have no way of reserving a charger for your use, or even know if it is use at any point in time. I always call ahead to make sure that they have a charger, and it is operational. Even then, you're never sure what your getting until you arrive at the hotel and check out the charger.

Adapter <<<< Link

I had one in my Tesla for the entirety of the time I owned it. Saved me more than once.
 
#1. Always call ahead. If hotel has valet, always ask to talk to valet guys.
#2. Bring your CCS adapter (which you should have received at delivery) in case they only have that type of charger. (If you have an Air, get a Tesla adapter)

If the hotel has chargers, you can pretty much assume that they have Tesla destination chargers. Some have both CCS and Tesla chargers.

Have never had an issue. This past weekend, I had to leave my keyfob with the valet as they had recently instituted a policy of only having their valet guys handle the EV chargers, since people would charge to 100% and then leave on all day. I really liked that new policy, FWIW. Honestly, have never had an issue with hotel charging with either my Air or ...
 
General comments:

1- Plugshare does not subdivide the Tesla or NACS chargers by generation.

2-Lucid service center states Tesla gen 1 &2 chargers do not charge Lucids

3- Tesla charger gen 3 was released in January 2020. Earlier destination charger adopters individually decide on upgrading.

As mentioned. Typical hotel staff have an inadequate knowledge base regarding charging equipment and protocol.
 
We just stayed at a hotel for the first time with our Gravity. Neither hotel nor PlugShare showed destination chargers. Upon arrival discovered two Tesla level 2 chargers available. Had to use the Tesla App to activate. .25/ kwh
 
Plugshare was originally a group of voluntary people who would share their capability with others in ‘the club of early EV adopters’ Many a nice chat in a driveway, with shared coffee+ too ! The system was voluntary. I presume that to this day, the owners of available chargers voluntarily notify ‘plugshare’
 
I just drove from Ontario to Washington DC in my 24 AT. (Very cold but the car was great.) I chose a hotel along the way that claimed to have chargers and phoned to confirm, although the staff knew no specifics. I got to the hotel and saw that they were only Tesla chargers and I have no adapter. My first reaction was "darn" but no biggy as there were other options. But great news: these Tesla chargers were magic docks that worked great. See pic. In hindsight, this is implicit in the Tesla app, which shows me this charger as an option to me (it knows I need a j1772). But not in other apps I have used.

To boot Tesla does not charge an idle fee for destination chargers so I was able to avoid unplugging my car at 3:30 am. Good on Tesla!

Lucky you found a magic dock supercharger. Those are basically unicorns.

How has the car been for you?

You have a GGT that flew through production, based on your post.
I haven't seen any posts from you in the bugs/issues thread or posts about issues (possibly missed by me); a good thing I hope.

I stayed at a Fairfield Inn with a Tesla destination charger in Harrisburg, PA. I have the Tesla app and have told it what car I have and that I have no adapter. I can then look for compatible superchargers or destination chargers. There are a fairly large number of them and it should be useful for planning. Here is a screenshot from the app. They are also pretty cheap for what it's worth. And the lack of idle fees is great.

So it wasn't an adapter that I have; it was attached to a Tesla destination charger and known as a "magic dock". See my other reply that quickly describes how to use the Tesla app to find magic dock superchargers or destination chargers. I find it useful and will use it for planning on future trips.
 
the motel staff wants your business
they do not know anything but saying yes
assume that they say "yes" to charging, if they do know about EVs at all, all they know is Tesla

take a Tesla tap with you, and count on it not working...or taking a day to charge to the next EA DC fast charger on your route.

I'm probably wrong.
