Gravity Bugs / Issues

When we picked up our Gravity DE, we were told by a member of the delivery team that they had performed the 3.3.5 update on there vehicle and both of the fobs.

Can you tell us when you picked up your Gravity DE? We're still waiting for the second fobs for both our DE's.

I've decided it's too subjective to matter. @copper and I have run frequency sweep tests, I have a background in mixing/mastering music, etc. - the Gravity (and the Air before it, but especially the Gravity) is one of the most responsive and widest soundstages in any vehicle. Moreover, it is extremely consistent and can be very flat if you want it to be. But it absolutely highlights the crappiness of a crappy source; you will hear the compression.

I love it. Others won't. I hate Tesla's sound system. Others love it.

I prefer the Audio-Technica "sound," and Grado's. Others like Sennheiser or B&O.

It's all subjective. I'm sure they're both great.

We have friends we pick up at least twice a week in our Gravity and have been doing so since we first got it several months ago. Every time they get in, they give us the list of songs they want to hear on the sound system for this trip. They have a nice home system but are simply blown away by the Gravity's system. They even ask us to rotate through sources (Spotify, Tidal, USB) so that they can try to figure out how much is due to the source and to the car. (The last couple of trips their lists have been theme songs and soundtracks from movies, which can really put the soundstage through its paces.)

My partner and I used to disagree over the Air's sound system. I thought the Air's system was flatter with a better soundstage than the system in his Model S Plaid, which he thought was better. But we both agree that the Gravity sound system is the best we've ever heard in a car -- and I've always opted for the sound system upgrade, if available, in every premium car I've bought.

New issue for me today. Never had it previously, also have only used the keycard twice once a week after we got the car. And once when I gave it to my tint installer about a month ago. Worked both times. Today I was checking to make sure they worked before giving them to valet at our hotel. Neither key card works. Thankfully the fob has worked nearly flawlessly, but does the keycard letting me unlock/lock the car, but not recognizing them to drive mean I need a new center console?

The car went absolutely berserk today after getting washed. The driver’s side door wouldn’t unlock, so I hopped into the driver’s seat via the passenger side door. The system was throwing errors like mazel tovs at a bar mitzvah. Door latch error, suspension error, rear steering error, turn signal error, you name it. And the driver’s side mirror wouldn’t unfold and the car wouldn’t leave park. But the car was on and it knew the key was in the car. Did many many hard reboots to no avail. Called Dana at the KoP studio and she suggested taking the battery out of the key fob, walking away from the car for 10 minutes, praying to the deity of my choice, and then coming back. I did, and here’s the craziest part - the car was COMPLETELY FINE. It was like I left Regan MacNeil from the Exorcist and came back to Molly Yeh from Girl Meets Farm. WTF is that? Why does taking the battery out of the key fob have anything to do with crazy random system errors? Also, note that this is tolerable when its just me on a sunny afternoon. But I’m going to get eaten alive when this happens to me + 6 smelly, tired, hungry kids after swim team practice at 8:30pm in a blizzard. My epitaph will be “But he really wanted to beta test a $120k EV."
I almost hate the write this but I'm becoming increasingly concerned about this company's ability to get on top of the Gravity's obvious issues with the software/hardware stack integration. The car is great when things are working and completely unreliable and undriveable when they are not, which happens far too often for a car at this price point. Now I'm doubting if the company has the leadership, talent or ambition to turn the corner. To think I used to laugh at Fisker Ocean drivers thinking "those poor suckers".

They seem biased against the Gravity. They said that the second row seats have to be folded flat to get into the third row. That’s not true - there’s a large button on the side of the second row seats that automatically slides them forward. Also the interior is much nicer than the Vistiq, which isn’t even close to the EX90. Also, there’s no way the sound system is better in the EX90. I’m not a Lucid fanboy by any stretch (see many of my prior posts), but this feels like a hit piece.
I've been in a Polestar 3 with the B&W system, it's excellent. they aren't the only ones to give it high praise.

Yes, there are a few examples of extreme issues but I would say the majority of complaints in here (including mine) are mere annoyances (albeit too many). Since 3.3.5 the false alerts and the fob warning messages have become non-existent. 6,700 miles in and multiple road trips, the car has done what it's meant to do, get me from A to B. It hasn't left me stranded, completely unreliable or un-driveable. 3.3.8 broke Halo Secure for me and the black screen when entering was still existent but that's about it.

This doesn't give Lucid a free pass but it's not like they're not fixing things. Clearly they're not happy with the situation hence the recent leadership changes but they're in a damned if you do and damned if you don't situation. If they publicly say "we f*ed up" and apologized it might win some favor with existing owners but then investors will be screaming at them because the stock price tanked even further. I'm not going to defend them entirely, some of the bugs \ issues are inexcusable and if they wanted to release a car in this state then they should've had a plan to be rolling out updates quicker than what they have been.

GENERIC UPDATE/COMMENTS FROM INFREQUENT POSTER: Just a few thoughts/reactions. First...absolutely love the car. Second, thank God I'm not having the number of issues I'm seeing others on this site encounter. Third, there do appear to be a number of recurring problems that many (including myself) are experiencing. FWIW, this is how I would summarize my experience:
- Accepted delivery October 9th, and updated to 3.3.5 when it was released (have not updated Fob). 3.3.5 Update significantly decreased (but has not eliminated) instances of black screens and 'Fob not detected'.
- Have used as daily driver, with no long trips to date, and issues requiring reboot occur less than once a week. Spurious alerts and unresponsive UI/controls occur several times during the week (normally resolving eventually)
- My commonality with others of 'irritating' software issues (Blasting AC, slow response/initiation of drive readiness, 'Dream Drive functions unavailable' alert even though operational, 'High Beam Assist unavailable' alert even though operational, Double-Bump on Frunk opening). Fortunately, proximity feature works 95% of time, and Fob and/or key card works 100% of time (when proximity fails).
- My commonality with others on 'Ergonomic' issues: Soft-close useless in current configuration (my 15 year old Lexus 460LS was smooth and flawless). Turn signal lack of reset on 'less than sharp' turns. Two-step door handle initiation (and delay) when opening. Poor UI color choices for screen settings. Slow opening of glove compartment. Slow transition between Driver Profiles.
Net-Net...my vehicle appears to have fewer systemic problems than many others on this site. My 'evidence-free' suspicion is that a significant number of GGT owners experience a similar level of 'inconvenience' with their vehicle but are not prone to post. Many/most of these (including the ergonomic ones) should be able to be addressed in future software updates...and PAAK (once available) may also address the systemic Fob/proximity issue. It is indeed unfortunate (although economically understandable) that Lucid did not iron out these software/ergonomic frailties before widespread distribution...but I WOULD purchase this vehicle again even knowing these limitations. The things I WOULD NOT do, unfortunately, is either recommend the vehicle to others (without explicit caveats) or let my wife use the vehicle (without me being available to assist/trouble-shoot real-time).

I share those feelings.

I've been on the edge of ordering for over a month now. These small, irritating bugs should be a couple hours work if I work slowly. I keep thinking we'll see new releases every couple of weeks knocking out these a few at a time but its not happening. As a potential customer (or you owners) we are not hearing squat. I thought Elon was a bad corporate communicator but I dare say Lucid is worse. You would think Lucid would learn from other's mistakes. At least provide a tentative road map for fixing this hot mess - if you don't set my expectations, I'll do it myself based on my experiences and will inevitably be wrong. It's the classic lose/lose scenario being built, apparently by design.

The CEO recently said something like "we will be first to L4" (I'd have to dig up specifics). Sure, its a different software team but they are showing a similar lack of results to date. Exactly what is holding up hands free (or other ADAS progress) on Gravity?

I continue in a "wait and see" approach. While in the meantime, lots of competitors are knocking at my door.

Lucid, its time to step up to the plate. This is a management issue and I have to assume it starts at the top. Please fix this or tell us when you will get around to it. Even if you said "we admit to these many dozens of software bugs and plan to have them all addressed by the 1st of the year", we would feel better about what you are selling. My confidence level is low based on history.

Or maybe put $15k of our purchase in escrow until the current list is fixed. Not sure why I should give Lucid money for a product like this with no assurance our concerns are even being heard.

Ok- Had GGT for 2 weeks now and finally experienced the "only the drive portion of the displays booted up". No infotainment, no pilot, no homelink etc. Did get the backup cameras and could drive the car. Could not do a 2 finger/foot reboot to reset things, Non-responsive. What finally resolved it was to take the grocery bags of the back seat! Car was complaining about no seatbelt and airbag issues because of that"person" in the back seat. Took the bags out and car booted up normally.
Here's the kicker, put the bags back in, locked the car, walked away and got the same response, no secondary screens, when I opened the car. Seems the "Nanny" portion of the software stack needs some serious tuning.

No, back camera had enough ambient light for me during night time.

Agree on the blind spot ones, annoying but minor to me.
Backup cameras have no ambient light. IMO it’s not safe to rely on them in low light situations. They do not have a night mode either.

I meant the ambient light from other sources - rear brake lights, streets, etc. Do any other cars have backup cameras with IR for night mode? None of my other cars do. My point was Lucid's backup camera is good enough for what a backup camera is meant for.

Honestly I was shocked how bad the image was on the backup camera and side view cameras when using the signals. I've test driven quite a few cars this year in our search for a new one and the Gravity easily has the worst cameras I've seen, including on some ICE cars.

It's a much better camera than what was on my air and comparable to my Volvo. As good as the rivian and Cadillac that we looked at. I wouldn't necessarily consider this a bug but could see why it might impact someone's decision if they had poor eyesight or mobility issues. You might consider a vehicle with better overall visibility.

It occurred to me I never replied here with the results of My test. Was able to connect my Gravity to my iPhone (as WiFi hotspot) but it didn’t stay connected long and, crucially, didn’t “reset” anything. My car, whenever away from Wi-Fi is simply offline. Hoping the SC sorts this out when I drop the car off next week.
Oh bummer! My car hasn’t been offline once since doing the hotspot trick over a week ago so my fingers were crossed that it would work for you too.
