Gravity Bugs / Issues

Has anyone tried pushing outward with “moderate”pressure while window roles up? This would hopefully keep the window from jamming against seal. The key would be pushing hard enough to have window not hit seal but not so hard that it causes window to retract cause it detects too much resistance. This might be a workaround to at least get the window closed until service can adjust properly.

1) the window is a misaligned seal. Quick and easy fix for mobile or SC

Interesting that this has never happened before but now would happen at the same time that both windows were frozen open. In any case, the mobile tech is coming next Tuesday for other issues, so I'll have him look at it.

2) it sounds like your key fob was unrecognized and it thought the car was off. That would explain the alarm, and everything else. My hopes 3.3.5 and the keyfob update fix those issues.

Both Gravities had 3.3.5 downloaded last week.

And with the car already powered up, why would a failure to recognize the key fob shut everything down? We've had failures to recognize before in both cars, causing it not to go into gear, but nothing like this ever happened.

So while it seems catastrophic, I suspect walking away and a sleep would have fixed it.

Not always easy to do when not at home or with other people in tow.

Consider all the things that happened more or less simultaneously:

- screens going black
- doors not opening electronically but windows still working
- then windows subsequently freezing
- horn blasting when you exit the car
- first ever occurrence of window failing to stay closed.

That's either a lot of coincidences or, as seems more likely to me, some kind of "swarm" of software misfires.

Frankly, I no longer give a shit what causes what and what workarounds cure what. I don't care if it's hardware. I don't care if it's software. I don't care if it's because our car is a one-off lemon (or a two-off in our current case). I'm just sick and tired of these Gravities throwing curve ball after curve ball at me as the Air did for the first ten months. As a habitual automotive early adopter I've had a few experiences close to this with one car from a brand, and I've cultivated a lot of patience. But I've never seen this with three cars.

Have you checked the setting for only unlocking driver door on first push? Pretty sure there is a setting that sounds like what you are seeing.
It does this behavior only rarely and when it does it is only the driver side passenger handle that does not present. Both passenger side handles present also.

Folks, I'm going to take a break from the forum for a bit.

I've been getting phone calls from Lucid all afternoon, but I haven't answered. I do give them credit for, I assume, trying to reach out.

But if reading my posts makes you think I'm angry, you really wouldn't want me at the other end of a phone line right now.

A Tale of Two Gravities (a tragicomic novel):

My partner went to the green Gravity this morning to leave for a tennis match. A few minutes later he came back in to show me a cell phone shot of the driver seat in full recline and asked me what to do. I told him others have reported the same problem on this forum and to reboot the car. He did and left for his match.

Shortly after noon I took the black Gravity to a medical appointment. On the way an earlier problem with the music going into pause repeatedly at frequent intervals resurfaced. After a few miles of driving, it corrected itself, and I made it to the appointment without further misbehavior.

I went back to the car after the appointment. When I opened the door, the car powered up, all the screens lit up, the climate control turned on, and music began to play. I took a second to switch albums, which the system did. I then put my foot on the brake pedal to put the car in gear. All the screens went instantly black, and the music and A/C shut off. I waited a while to see if they would come back on as sometimes happens with partial screen blackouts. Nothing happened.

After several minutes I tried a reboot. Nothing happened.

I called Lucid Customer care and got the voice prompts to choose Sales or Service. I chose Service and got a message that the call was being connected. After a few seconds I got another message saying that there was an "application error", and the call suddenly terminated. I tried again. Same thing. So I called the Miami Service Center. Same thing. (Maybe today's widespread AWS outage took Lucid down?)

It was 92º and I began to swelter, so I lowered the front windows, which were mysteriously still working, and called my partner to come get me. He arrived about twenty minutes later, during which time I tried a couple more reboots and kept trying to reach Lucid only to get the same "application error" messages.

When my partner arrived, I gathered my things to exit the car. But when I tried to close the windows they were now frozen in the down position. Rain was predicted for the afternoon, and I didn't want to leave the car open in a parking lot. So I tried to reach our mobile tech to see if he had any suggestions. No answer.

I decided I had no choice but to leave the car open and hope I could reach Lucid before it started raining. When I tried to open the driver door, it would not open until I pulled the latch very hard to engage the manual release. The horn immediately began blaring. So I got back into the car and closed the door, hoping that would stop the horn. It didn't, but the horn cut itself off after another minute or so. I kept trying to close the windows, and the driver window finally raised about an inch and then froze again. We went through this whole drill a second time (including another blasting horn). After this second cycle, the car suddenly sprang back to life, with everything working (almost).

I had another appointment but decided to skip it, as I dared not go through this again and just wanted to get the damned car home in one piece. As I drove off, I noticed the passenger window had lowered about a third of the way. I raised it again, and it again lowered itself about a third of the way. I tried lowering the window all the way and then raising it. Same thing. Wondering if I had something handy to slit my wrists, I drove off while constantly trying to get the passenger window to stay closed. This continued with the window going up and down for several miles until it finally stayed closed.

I had real hopes that the black Gravity we received three months after the green Gravity would be more problem-free, but those hopes are now gone.

There is NO FUCKING WAY I will put either of these cars on a road trip at this point, and now I won't even use them locally if we're carrying other people. -- two of the main reasons I wanted these Gravities. We'll be keeping our Honda Odyssey for that.

Lucid ought to fire every damn person who had anything to do with the user software in this car and farm the work out to an outfit that knows what it's doing.

Yet Lucid just plows along, putting more of these cars not only into customers' hands, but now loaning them out to car reviewers who are finding out about the interminable key fob entry/start issues and, even worse, with Tom Moloughney of widely-watched "State of Charge" getting a car with a faulty drive unit that badly fumbled his range test and would not work at a Tesla Supercharger (another reason I wanted a Gravity).

I already know that I'm going to have to eat the loss on my Lucid stock position. I've now got to decide whether I'm even keeping the cars.
Hi, @hmp. I am sorry to hear about you and your partner's experience today. I just sent you a DM. Let me know how I can help.

I set an appointment for December to update my key fob with the 3.3.5 update at my nearest service center 3 hours away. Today I got a call from Lucid service telling me I would get a call from my local tech for a remote service call and they cancelled the service center appointment.

You need your seals aligned. Two workarounds:
1. Close it 3 times. On the third (or fourth?) it will not auto close but you’ll be able to close it manually.
2. Open the door, then close the window. No deal for it to run into and the closing works fine.
I have this issue on both my front windows. Just on the list of things that need to get done. They DO go up eventually. Mine are clearly a seal issue. Maybe when they come do my mobile fob update I can get them to adjust….

Man, I’m guessing this MAY have been suggested to you, but after market modification can introduce gremlins. I did see the pic you posted of the entire front end of your Gravity off to install radar/laser jammer. Now I PROMISE I am not victim blaming, your cars are still majorly busted, but the amount of anomalies you’re experiencing are beyond what literally any other owner I know has had. I’ve had behind the scenes conversations with Lucid engineers and given they BARELY have a handle on the nuances of Gravity tech and assembly and disassembly, I have just the slightest suspicion that taking the car apart to hide a radar detector on both cars could have scrambled things on both cars. Again on stable cars this may not break things, but on a gen 1 car adding this variable to the chaos soup may have complicated things. I just stuck my Uniden R8 in front of the A pillar and ran RJ11 to USBC in the center console, and my car has been more stable than my Air was in 2022 with V1. Knock on wood (aka Tahoe wood trim) but aside from keycard fail my car just works. 🤷‍♂️ But I still remember what after market audio installl could do to break pillar airbags due to custom heat sensitive retention clips, and I can’t help but think that anybody who’s not a Lucid employee who’s willing to take apart the car is VERY brave.

Fix. The. Fob. It’s supposedly a five minute update, but we can’t stop by SC and get it done…so 3.3.5 isn’t helpful to me as I can’t update my fob in a timely way. I can’t get a mobile appt for weeks - so why actually have the OTA?

Has anyone here gotten the fob update associated with 3.3.5? Let’s start there…

If 3.3.5 does fix it, Lucid has got to let existing owners get the fob update asap and not wait. I have a roadtrip this weekend. I called and educated SC about the update today. How long do I wait for mobile service to call me back and schedule?

I am patient. I am frustrated. I DO still love the car but can’t understand how or why Lucid can’t communicate. The fact they appear to continue to deliver cars with issues is a big problem as it was fine when there were maybe 200 of us or whatever - heaven forbid they actually have 1,000+ on the road now.

Hopefully this is a sign that Lucid recognizes that they want neither the bad press nor the unhappy customers from letting fob issues linger to December.

IIRC he doesn't have the radar installed in the second Gravity yet. I seem to remember a day or two ago he said it was going in for it soon.

Oh if that’s the case I misunderstood, I thought PPF and radar install were the same people, if so I’m totally wrong.

I don't have a GGT in my possession yet. But his gremlins do make me reconsider having a similar install done. That said, he's only had the Uniden installed in one Gravity, and the other one is still have concerning problems.

You said what I'm sure several of us have been thinking now for a while. I don't want to blame either and I HATE that he's going thru this. But yeah....

Currently working on doing the same. Either going to the 3 hr trip to the SC Saturday or seeing if they can send a mobile tech this week. I just want the keyfob issue done and gone if possible, but to be fair, I haven't had it once yet since the latest update. If I can keep it that way by doing the firmware update, I'll be a much happier owner and can stand by while they chase down the rest of the bugs.

Here’s my question. If your fob had the firmware update prior to 3.3.2 that supposedly fixed the fob, and the same firmware update that paused Gravity deliveries very briefly, then is ANOTHER subsequent firmware update by service needed for 3.3.5? If so, cool, but if not and 3.3.2 firmware update was adequate that would be great. All I know is since 3.3.2, I could drive my car but with many false errors and long black screens, and with 3.3.5 I can drive my car and get no false errors and brief black screens on entry sometimes but have not yet done anything to get another fob firmware update. I am confused, cuz this is confusing. It seems like service is trying to understand what to do also? As far as I can tell, the fob is FINALLY usable, so now it’s just time to target other software weaknesses?

I haven’t had the message pop up since installing 3.3.5 and as such, I’m certainly in no rush to get the fob updated because I actually had more issues with it the last time they updated than previously before.

My IT brain tells me “if it ain’t broke, don’t mess with it” lol

It is a new firmware update. We also had additional improvements deployed through the OTA, which means even without the key fob update the experience should improve a bit, but the firmware update is required for the full performance improvement.

Thank you for the clarification that it’s a second firmware update applied to the fob. I’ll make sure to get that done as soon as service can get me in.

Also, today before getting the ToD my surround cameras didn’t come online when the car started. This was a first. It does seem like 3.3.5 actually introduced a few new issues. Before [involuntarily] installing 3.3.5 on Friday night, I had 3 weeks of driving bliss. Since then, multiple ToDs and one camera fail. Really hoping that in the next few weeks Lucid is able to iron all of these kinks out, because when it was working, it was a stellar driving experience.
