I picked up my new Air Touring a couple of days after the last date to apply for a Clean Air Vehicle decal. This article won't open for me because I don't have a subscription. Does this mean that they will accept applications for decals again? The DMV website still says they are not accepting applications.

In the Bay Area CHP seems to be fine with any EV driving in HOV lanes, even if it doesn't have a CAV decal on it. I wonder how CHP will handle enforcement after Oct 1 (or at the end of this grace period)

No change. No new application accepted. It's illegal to drive alone with an expired clean air sticker starting October 1, 2025. However, you have a 2-month grace period to receive a warning without incurring a ticket for the violation.

I wonder if this means two months of possibly getting stopped and issued warnings? Or just a two month extension?

I believe this only effects the HFOV lanes where stickers are needed for solo drivers.

It's still illegal to drive solo with the expired clean air sticker but when stopped by cops, they have an option to issue a warning/education and skip ticking.

However, violators still have to pay tolls and all penalties as recorded by the carpool cameras.

I stuck mine behind the cockpit display, so it can be seen from the outside but invisible to me inside the car. And it's reachable for the driver when moving the switch between 1, 2, and 3+.

The whole point of the grace period is for people to get used to NOT driving in the carpool lanes. If you spend those two months using them, you're going to get into trouble two months later.

So to summarize .. no tickets for 60 days ... BUT there's the risk of getting pulled over for "educational purposes".
