Lucid Gravity GT
I have now had my Gravity GT seven passenger for four weeks. It’s been in service twice, first for a rear seat that needed to be replaced. Got the car back after four days. Three days later….Thursday night we were driving in LA and I heard what sounded like a backfire in the rear. Car was immediately reprogrammed to go no more than 52 MPH and lacked some steering control. After it was parked for a while, it seemed to regain “its health” and drove home with no issue. Yesterday, I got a call from Lucid Service in Beverly Hills to bring the car in ASAP as there is an identified rear drive unit issue. I was given a loaner, which is great, but service admitted that it will take a while to diagnose, and if needed to be replaced, could take a while. I think being an early adopter is a blessing and a curse. I hope this curse is short-lived!

We never want to hear this, but it's a good thing this a proactive and not reactive action. Prop to them for this.

Just curious, how has the repair gone? Did they resolve the problem? Or is the car still at the service center two weeks later?

I’d like to know how the swap went as well.

Took delivery of my Gravity Dream Edition on 24 July, and made a service appointment a few weeks after that to address some interior issues. Closest appointment date (including a loaner car) was 8 Sept. When I dropped off my Gravity, the service advisor said they’d received telemetry info from engineering whose analysis stated my rear drive unit would need to be replaced. They’ve had the car for three weeks now. Communication with my SA has been good. He let me know a couple of days ago that the RDU swap had been completed, but that the air suspension wasn’t behaving properly since the RDU swap, so they’re troubleshooting that with HQ. Hoping they resolve that quickly and return my car sometime this week. I’ve really missed it all these weeks!

@Larrylevin127 — how long did they have your car? Were there any knock-on effects after the swap that service needed to troubleshoot (like my air suspension)?

I had a similar issue. While freeway driving, tried the sprint mode and had the “pop” which led to a 52 mph decrease and had to exit the freeway and drive backroads home. After a half hour the car reset and I thought it was fine. Warning was cleared. Retested sprint mode and the car lost acceleration power and said pull over immediately. At the light/turn to my home it went into park and would not move, leaving me stranded in the turn lane. Had it towed to my house (via police call) then towed to Lucid via their service dept. - rear drive was replaced. Worked well for a few weeks then had a “rear steering” warning come an along with “network not available”. After a reboot (brake, mic, X), warning went away and seems fine. But opening a case to see if the rear steering not available is tied to the replaced rear drive unit. Waiting now on a service visit.

I have had almost the exact same story as you. Replaced 2nd row seats due to the power unit jamming. that took 12 days in the shop. now blown FDU and the car has already been in for 6 days and i dont think they have even started yet.

I can commiserate. Took delivery of my Gravity DE ON 24 July. Racked up a punch list for service (malfunctioning middle row seats, Home Link module needed activation, etc.) and when I dropped it off at service for those repairs, they told me my rear drive unit needed replacing. They kept my car for nearly a month. I wasn’t really all that put out, because they did provide me with an Air loaner for the entirety of that time, but I’d fallen sooo in love with the Gravity, every day without it felt like an eternity!

Unfortunately they were only able to replace the RDU, and activate Home Link during that long span of time. The middle row seats (Tahoe leather) were apparently on back order so they ordered them and released the car to me whilst they wait for available seats. That was a month ago and I’m still waiting 🤷🏻‍♂️

as much as a like the Gravity, I am very concerned at the reliability as a daily driver.

Those are false errors (not the turtle RDU, that’s real), I got those other errors yesterday after charging at work, also got a headlight error which was false. They went away after a sleep. Would it better if there were no false errors? Yes. Is it better that these errors are false rather than real? Also yes.
