Hi Gravity owners & soon-to-be owners,

I love the Lucid Gravity. It checks all the boxes for me - Smooth luxurious ride, Long range, Fast charging (even at Tesla chargers!), Roomy, Loaded with cool and useful features, Amazing sound system. I really want it.
So I have already placed my order (selected everything except the HUD package).
I did the test drive this Tuesday with my kids and loved it (at the ValleyFair mall San Jose)... although it was too short.
I plan on doing one more test drive for sure, especially to show it to my wife... but before I count my chickens....

After the test drive, I told the Sales Advisor that I need 2 things before I will be ready to take delivery:
1. The lock/unlock/start issue related to the key-fob is resolved (They told me they will reach out to the tech team and get back to me)
2. Service center in San Jose needs to be up and running :) - They told me San Jose Service location will open before year end. They told me my config should be ready for delivery around November.

I need some help from current owners... so I can clear my mind of the one thing that is bugging me... the whole lock/unlock/car-start "issue". I read some reviews which said they could not open the doors and get into the car (??). I have seen multiple reviews on this. Hence my concern... I don't mind bugs/issues which are not related to getting me from point A to point B (which includes getting into the car, starting the car and driving safely to the destination). I am trusting that Lucid will solve those through software updates (again based on reviews I have been reading).

What I want to know about the lock/unlock/start issue is how widespread is this key-fob issue? Does it happen to all the Gravitys? Does it happen intermittently? Has the issue been resolved already with updates? With the three different methods (Key FOB, Key Card, Phone App), is there at least ONE method (or even a workaround using more than one of those three methods) that lets me unlock the car, get in and start the car EVERYTIME, ALL THE TIME?

Hope the current Gravity owners can help me allay my one concern. Please share your experience with your Gravity about this one issue.

PS: This is my first post. I am not sure if I am posting it under the right category. Please advise if I need to move it somewhere else.

No one knows except Lucid how widespread it is.

I can say I don’t have any fob or key card issues. The car sometimes says “fob not present” but that immediately goes away and I’ve had no issues getting in or starting the car.

Several folks have had issues, it’s widespread enough that I think Lucid acknowledged it, but it seems, for most, IF there is an issue, the key card works.

That said, no one can say when it will be squashed entirely…

Thanks @Ron_Burgundy. Glad to hear that this has not been an issue for you!
Hoping to hear the same about the key card working from others as well. Hope that will be the go-to option if the issue does pop-up... BTW the SA did mention that as long as I keep the card with me things will work fine. Glad that you were able to confirm the same.

Thanks again...

For me, since the 3.2.1 update, I had only 1 instance of it thinks the fob is missing. Keycard had work 100% of the time for me. Just got my 3.2.2 update today, maybe it's squashed. Time will tell. I always carry the keycard as backup (just in case), thinking back, I did 2 SoCal roadtrips without the card (before Fob gate happened), and had no issues. I swear, once people start mentioning, it spread to me. Now that you guys are talking about seat rattles. GUESS WHAT? I have joined the rattle club today. Stop talking about issues on the Gravity, mine was 100% perfect till you guys start talking about all the problems. :)

I always carry a keycard in my wallet, even when things work perfectly. I use PaaK for Rivian but my phone died once, so I needed my key card. Also, in the rare event I valet, I use the key card as I never carry the fob for my Rivian. Once Gravity gets PaaK, I expect to retire the fob as well.

I'm counting on the San Jose service center to open as well. Lucid's website still says "Summer"- even if it's fall, you should be OK.

Thanks @DeaneG !
The SA said that they would do a "soft opening" next month.. not sure if he was just sh***ing me :) But yeah, end of the year is fine.
I just don't want to be driving to Millbrae if I have any issues.. that's like driving cross country :))

BTW do you have your Gravity? What's your lock/unlock/start experience with the FOB/Card/App been like?

A few days into ownership and I had an issue this morning that may have been the keyfob or something else, not sure. My wife and I stopped for breakfast when coming back to the car the doors auto unlocked as usual but the car would not shift into drive or reverse. Tried putting they keycard (which my DA said to allways have on your person) on the charger to start it up but that did not work. Tried a soft reset but the car would not soft reset. Got a hold of the lucid concierge and they had us exit the car lock it with they keyfob and walk away for 5min. This resolved the situation. The wife is now apprehensive to use it as he daily so I am for a week or two to see if this happens again.

I’ve been driving this car for a month now, and I haven’t had any key card or fob issues. I suppose I’ve been lucky, but we haven’t encountered many problems except for a rear seat squeak and some software error messages that I think will resolve on their own. Overall, I’m really enjoying the car. I was impressed when I bought it, and I still am! I can’t wait to get back in and drive it! The only issue I thought I had was when a valet who didn’t know the car tried to get in and drive it. It worked fine, but he just couldn’t figure it out.

OP, you mentioned phone as a key and that feature is not yet enabled.

I was one of the ones the keys failed to work for. Neither the fob or cards would open the car. I used the app to.open the door and the keys still would not allow me to start it. Lucid pushed the software update to reinstall and that fixed it. Since then and going to the latest software version, the fob has once or twice given me that message, but the key card has worked every single time. I keep both on me and likely always will just in case. No big deal as the card just goes in my wallet. I think/hope the next update will really squash this key problem...

Thanks for sharing @mutant9 - I don't blame your wife... I would be too... OTOH my wife would be other things if this happened to her.. but apprehensive is not the word I would use :)

Please do post back in a week or two as to how your experience is with this issue. I am sending you good-vibes wishing that it is solved :)

Oh, I see.. i am still not sure I understand the purposes of the FOB vs Card vs Phone (when it is enabled). But glad to know that the CARD is the go-to option. Same as what Ron_Burgundy and 9point81 also mentioned.

I believe Lucid thinks that version 3.2.2 partially address the critical issues you're worried about, but they have said that there is another software release coming in early September to wrap up the problems. It's safe to say that on the current software, some people are still having hiccups. Given your expected delivery time frame, it seems pretty likely that Lucid will have had a chance to fully resolve the problem before you'd be able to buy a Gravity. Even if the September release still needs one more set of patches after it's out.
