Hi, I have been observing lately that my car is maintaining LOT of distance from front car in adaptive cruise or drive assist. Please see attached image. Even when I select one bar using gap settings button on steering wheel, distance between front car and mine is too big. It's on straight highways too, no turns. Is this sensor recalibration issue or software issue or working as designed? Can someone please confirm before I bother service center? Thanks

folks - pls see if someone can post their experience and advise if it's same/different. Challenge I see is frequently other cars cut through which is very frustrating in heavy traffic, leaving gaps between cars means inviting other cars to cut through- Joined

I think many cars are like this--our last three cars included. In heavy-ish traffic where the passing lane is going 75-80, I find adaptive cruise control leaves a reasonable amount of space, which invites antsy drivers to cut in. Then my car slows to maintain adequate space. Then people behind me get frustrated, pass me on the right, then zip in front of me, and my car slows to create adequate space. So I don't use adaptive cruise control when highways are busy--particularly when jousting with truck traffic.Hahha... automatic policing.
The following distance scales with speed. So yeah, at 82 I'd expect one bar to still be a good bit of room. The Air GT's 60-0 stopping distance has been measured at 115 feet on the summer 21s (best case), so that's not a bad thing for the ACC to assume. I understand you may have to get closer while maneuvering, but that's on you.
I get similar experience in stop and go traffic as well. My car starts as soon as front car begins moving but maintains lot of distance for another car to "easily" cut in and gap settings button set to minimum gap is still not sufficient
