Pothole damage to two wheels and tires

Bad night. Hit pothole and destroyed right tires with some rim damage. Having Lucid take to the service center in the morning. Any suggestions on repair or replacement in LA would be helpful.

I can't help with repair tips and the following may or may not apply to you in LA, but -- here in Seattle, the city's department of transportation is chartered with keeping the roads safe and in good repair, so when a pothole damages a vehicle, submitting a claim to the city results in reimbursement for all damages. LA or the specific municipality you're in may or may not have a similar policy that covers the cost of your damage. Good luck!

Wow that's a whopper! Whenever it rains out here, we seem to get potholes more frequently. I can't recommend anyone in LA but my son got his bent Honda rim, that was leaking air, repaired for a fraction of the rim cost. Try yelp reviews and typically they will guarantee their work.

if you drive in areas with poor roads avoid the low profile wheels and tires. they will always be prone to problems

Fwiw, rim repair depends on the amount and type of rim damage.

Just had it happen two weeks ago. 21" of course. Loads of places do cosmetic, dings, gouges, scapes. Easy and usually fine.

Bending back a really bent wheel rim to straight is another issue. My Inner rim was bent out 3/8" for a 4" area. Wheel held air but the required outer weight to balance went from .5 oz to 4.25. Huge amount of wt for high performance tires, wheel. Indicates wheel massively out of balance.

I am not a fan of straightening bent cast alu or mag wheels. Especially our no name Mexican wheels on a very, very heavy car, prone to low profile tire and rim damage. I figured my bent rim is now wall art.

Fwiw, Local wheel repair guys wanted $200 to 250 to straighten. Guarantee was money back if it fell apart, cracked or wobbled.

The good news. Found a local shop the buys wheels from people. Had a full set of 21". I Paid $280 for a pristine 21" Lucid front. I love that it was not from a car dismantled.

I always see a bunch of used Lucid wheels on ebay. I found that Most of the big wheel sellers are honest and really do check all the specs, runout, cracks, ba lol ance.

I towed it to service center. I will talk to them tomorrow and see what they recommend

Peter makes a good point. If the force was enough to break the tire the rim is suspect.
When I got a tire bubble I found the bend in the rim on the opposite side of the bubble. A scar/scuff on the rim may not tell the whole story. The bend was undetectable until I removed the wheel = then it was obvious.

When buying used rims it is nice to know they don't have the problems Peter mentioned.

I'm taking my "soft " 21-inch Lucid rim to wheel repair in Bath, Pa to get checked out. Been musing on buying a set of Dream Edition (forged) wheels
...car comes with the wheels I am looking to purchase.
