Android users, can you check this setting? (Unrestricted background battery)

Android has a setting under "App Battery usage" that allows you to customize behavior when the app is in the background. I attached a picture of this setting.

When I change this setting I am finding that the LUCID app will automatically switch itself from "Unrestricted" back to "Optimized" after a few hours. I am not sure what is causing this, but I use the "Unrestricted" setting for many apps (games, golf tracking on course, basically anything where I want location tracking to continue in the background) and LUCID is the only app that is forcing itself back to "Optimized".

I am curious if this is universal for all Android users indicating a problem with the app itself. Very unusual. Thanks for checking! Make sure to give it a while before replying as it takes hours.

Mine has always allowed background usage. I've never needed to change it on my Pixel 8 or 9. It's been a couple years. Currently Pixel 9 Pro.

Not the "allow" toggle, the Optimized/Unrestricted buttons underneath if you need to expand the attached picture. Is that what you meant? (you need to click on the toggle text to see the choices, it's not immediately obvious that it's a clickable menu)

I also have a Pixel.

Ah, you're right, mine is also "Optimized" rather than Unrestricted. I'll change to Unrestricted and see what happens.

I have a Pixel 9 up to date on Android 15. My app's settings has the background usage toggle, which is turned on, but there are no /Unrestricted buttons beneath it. Just on or off for the background usage itself.

Mine was also Optimized...I changed it to unrestricted. Thanks!

You have to tap the Allow Background Usage text to see the buttons. This could have been clearer on Google's part.

Aha! Same here! It was running Optimized and just switched it. I wonder if it turning back to Optimized has to do with us having 'Use Adaptive Battery' turned at the bottom of the phone's general Battery settings.

I have already tested disabling Adaptive Battery completely, and for me that did not prevent the LUCID app (and again, only the LUCID app) from forcing itself back to "Optimized" after a few hours.

Interesting. I'll report back on this, but at almost three hours, it's still toggled on Unrestricted. BTW, I wonder if this might possibly have something to do with the app's common laggy auto open issue.

Very interesting indeed. I just checked the app, and six hours after setting the app to Unrestricted, it's back to Optimized. All on its own.

I'm trying a couple things next. First, I turned Adaptive Battery off, which I know you said was unsuccessful. Then, I turned off Battery Saver. Last, under the (unchecked) Extreme Battery Saver tab, I added the Lucid app to my list of Essential Apps. I'm hoping that last step might make a difference.

Motorola razr+ here, the Lucid app was set to "Unrestricted" on my device when I checked just now. I've not messed with this setting, I will note I have all battery saving utilities set to manual.

Mine's still on Unrestricted in the same time frame.

Mine is set on Unrestsricted. I've never changed it, didn't even know this setting was here. Samsung phone.

Appreciate the confirmation. It definitely varies. I don't think I've ever made it an entire day yet but there have been some days it's long enough for me to think "mayyyyyybeeee". But it never lasts.

Let me know if you make any headway getting it to stick. I sent a message to the email listed on the Google Play store: [email protected]

With these actions, my Pixel 9 seems to be holding on Unrestricted. I'm hoping that this was the result of adding the Lucid app to the list of Essential Apps. I'm now going to try turning adaptive battery back on, as well as the standard battery saver. If it then fails again, I'll turn off the latter one and try again.

I'm starting a test for the "essential" list as well and will report back. Battery saver is already off for me, and as I indicated earlier I tried Adaptive battery without success.

I had thought the essential list was only relevant when battery saver was actually active, but who knows. We'll see! 🤞

Regarding your above statement... If you're going to think logically, you're never going to get anywhere with Google... or Lucid! :-)

Ha! Back to optimisted fairly quickly! Now, I'm going to leave the adaptive battery on and turn off the battery saver, but with the Lucid app in the (also turned off) extreme battery saver's list of essential apps. Should be counterintuitively interesting.
