Adapter needed for Tesla Supercharger

Lectron makes high quality adapters but the Lucid Air does not yet have access to the Tesla Supercharger network. I would save your money for now.

Tesla website says Lucid vehicles can charge. Is this controlled by Lucid or Tesla?

It controlled by the electronic handshake between the charger and the car. Lucid Gravity can charge on the Tesla network but Air is not yet enabled. Air should be enabled sometime this summer.

Picking up our new Air Touring in Chicago this Friday, and wanted to make sure I'm prepared for all charging options on my way home. What's the "go-to" adapter for everyone?

I did see this one, but still wanted to check in with the forum. https://ev-lectron.com/products/lec...4M8xUVft_lTDK2FGJXdvu_tW8GHP1bQQaAunqEALw_wcB

Thanks.

You need a few apps, PlugShare, electrify America, ChargePoint, and other apps. I am not from Chicago so not sure what is best network there, but I would use PlugShare to find reliable fast chargers in your area. Then also download that charger app and set up accounts. You don’t need Tesla superchargers. It will be nice to have an additional option, but I have never needed it.

A couple of questions: How will we be notified when Air is enabled? Will Lucid be manufacturing an adapter?

Good questions. I assume Lucid will do a press release when Tesla Supercharger access becomes available for Air. They did for Gravity. I am fairly sure that Lucid will sell an adapter for connecting NACS to CCS1 to charge the Air. Lucid is including an adapter with Gravity that goes they other way CCS1 to NACS. I doubt the adapter will be free, but it important to get a high quality adapter and I am sure the Lucid adapter will be thoroughly tested with the Air.

Thanks.

I've driven 15,000 miles in the past 9 months...never once wished that I had Tesla Supercharger access. Your 355 mile route home from Chicago to Columbus, OH provided access to 7 Electrify America stations with 4 of them being in Indy, right at the half way mark. Similarly, there are 11 EVGo stations along the way as well.

No adapter needed, there were a wealth of compatible charging options along the way. I realize your post was back in March....I'm curious how it worked out. Please tell me the Lucid delivery team helped to educate you on this and provided some guidance for existing options for your return trip home!

Just ordered a '25 AT and would like to know what adapter I need to make use of a Tesla Wall Charger (I'm moving over from Tesla).

Thanks

use this one.

This is good for level 2 charging at home.

Lucid air does not yet have the tesla supercharger access. But it will soon. At that time, you will need a more expensive adapter which Lucid should sell also.

Thanks for the quick reply. Definitely looking forward to the supercharger access as I commute from PA to NJ each day and there is a SC at the mid-point just in case.

I would not touch an off brand. Lectron, A2Z, Amphenol or one from Lucid is all that I would use.
Thanks, Neil! Will one of these work with both Superchargers and home chargers? I'm hoping that Tesla's current (pun intended) 50kW supercharger rate will be upped before our annual trek to Washington, although I'll still just view this as an emergency back-up.

You can’t charge an Air on any of the superchargers yet, except those with a Magicdock. Of course with those, the adaptor is built into the charger. It will be a while before the Airs are authorized and I would assume we would give able to get a Lucid SC adaptor at that time.

The 50 kW limit is not changing anytime soon. It is a result of Tesla using outdated 500V chargers that require a DC to DC boost to charge Lucid's 900V battery. That DC to DC conversion is hardware limited to 50kW. Until Tesla implements 1000V V4 cabinets and V4 chargers, the Lucid Air's 50 kW limit will not change. I would use a different adapter for AC and DC charging.

Why not? Lectron makes the Ford adapters and those work already. The adapter has very well defined specs that Tesla makes public. Everyone that can meet those specs will be allowed to charge and can't void the warranty of the car.
