Shame on me...should have known better

So, @markbuick , problem resolved? More importantly, have you returned to being a happy owner (and shareholder?)

By the way, if you do want to test Dolby Atmos and what it can do, Tidal has test clips, where they let you hear from all of the speakers and experience what it does. In Tidal, search for "Dolby Atmos" and several test clips will appear.

Everyone have a great day!

In 2023 they did have some inventory cars that they discounted heavily by not activating the SSPro and DDPro. The hardware was in fact there, but they were able to offer these cars at a discount if those features were not included. So even though the sticker said it, the purchaser didn’t pay sticker price. Was that the case with OP’s car, was it a special deal?

I am having similar experience. I'm a prospective used buyer - looking at cars off lease, but not at Lucid. I know I want SSP as non-negotiable option. It's relatively easy to identify SSP hardware (extra speakers in headliner).

I'm looking at two cars currently that have SSP. Last week, I called Lucid service and specifically asked about two cars (cars A and B). I was told both have SSP - based on VIN lookup. Car A is a 2024 Pure- (which isn't quite optioned exactly how I'd choose). I've confirmed SSP with original window sticker which was in glovebox. It clearly shows SSP -$2900. Car B is also a 2024 Pure - (is optioned and priced almost perfect), I don't have access to window sticker on car B. I have confirmed on car B that SSP is currently working (you can run an atmos test with Tidal that is pretty definitive).

Yesterday, I was ready to make decision on car B. I call Lucid(service) one last time to confirm options, warranty period, etc. I'm now told that car B only has *hardware* for SSP but Lucid's system/records don't show that the car doesn't have the software / activation for it. I called again this morning to verify and try to understand the situation. My concern is I get the car, system works, then few months after update or in for service is starts not working. Oh...and now I need to pay $2900 to activate it. This is exactly what Lucid says *could* happen, without any recourse besides spending $2900.That's frustrating. Here's where it get's really bad though -- out of curiosity, I ask to run VIN on car A (which I have a photo of original sticker with $2900 option). Lucid service says no record of car A activation. I've yet to call confirm Car A is working with test, but I kinda think it will

So....I don't really know where to go from here. Lucid personnel have been really kind (on the Lucid service line), considering I've spent probably an hour of their time (over several calls). However...I'm super frustrated that A. They can't tell me accurately whether cars have SSP. B. Even if SSP is currently working, it could stop working or be removed and require $2900 to reactivate. I completely understand if SSP wasn't originally purchased, but I have a specific example of one that was clearly purchased but is now not working and another example where it is working, unverifiable whether originally purchased, and Lucid is saying it shouldn't be working.

Super happy for any ideas from anyone? Help?

On a 2024 car, I don’t think it’s possible to have SSP and not have it activated. By then, the subscription experiment was over, I believe. One of the other experts here can confirm that for you.

I’m fairly sure the whole subscription thing for SSP was a late 2022 - early 2023 thing, and they dropped it by the time the model year was swapped to 2024.

I also think any car that wasn’t activated by now should no longer be getting the free trial, so if it weren’t activated, you’d be able to hear the difference now, I would think.

I don’t think it will be working now and then suddenly turned off in the future, in other words.

Again, hard to know for sure. But I thought those were all deactivated long ago. Especially if the car had a previous owner.

It boggles the mind that Lucid can't easily answer the question of whether a given vehicle has a permanent capability or not. That uncertainty would likely cause me to not buy the vehicle, or perhaps demand a significant discount due to the uncertainty. Which means that Lucid is screwing owners of that generation of vehicle with their behavior pushing down the market price of the used vehicle.

I agree it’s nuts they can’t answer that simple question.

But it really is a small number of cars that are affected by this. And like I said, if the car is used, chances are you can listen to the system and figure it out for yourself, because the trial will have been long over since the car was new.

Agreed, although I can see that a potential purchaser might not be familiar enough with how to identify which used vehicles could be problematic, and thus shy away from all of them.

I can understand the hesitation... If you end up stuck with an SSP-less car you are not gonna like it, it's a big difference

Something else I didn't mention is that just last week I looked at a local car - a 2025 touring, dealer said it had upgraded sound system. I went to look at it, saw the speaker grills in ceiling. However, when I setup with my Tidal account, tried running the atmos test, it didn't work. I thought, maybe I'm doing something wrong, etc. I called Lucid service and was told for that car - it had hardware but SSP wasn't activated. In that car, at least what service told me matched what I was observing. I reported that to dealer. Of course they were concerned because they'd purchased the car thinking it had it. They were going to check with Lucid, but I haven't heard anything different from them yet.

So....I get it. The two cars I originally posted about with SSP currently working, *probably* will continue to work. That's basically what Lucid service told me - they'd never heard of it getting *shut off*. Also, one advisor said,"Just test the car. If you like it, you're probably OK." BUT... Then continued to tell me that I wouldn't have recourse (in their eyes) if it quit working, because Lucid shows that it isn't supposed to be activated.

This just seems SO crazy. Surely Lucid knows what they sold just 2 years ago. I'm not sure I'll feel settled unless I get an explanation for why the car that clearly shows SSP on the Monroney sticker isn't in the system as *activated*. If for instance the Lucid position is "if it works, it'll continue working", why not just tell me in writing this they'll turn it back on if for some reason it quits working? Apparently it is literally just a software switch that they can change remotely (that at least what Lucid service told me).

BTW - What I'm using to test (and I believe this is a valid test)... First, sign-in/sign-up for Tidal in Lucid native app (you'll have to have an account). Then check settings for highest fidelity in Tidal. Then search for Atmos Test - you should find "Dolby Atmos Audio Test". This test should play sounds in individual locations in car (front left, front center, etc) in the SSP car. If you're in a car with base system, it'll just sound like all the sound is coming from every speaker in the car.

Cars may have the hardware with a trial activation for the original buyer. The original buyer did not activate after the trial period. Or, they bought with a discount without activation.

That’s why I stopped buying used cars. With a new one, you know exactly what you are getting into. And no doubts about damage/issues/options. Only used car I might consider is a supercar. But I list all interest in these after driving the Air.

... and, a supercar's superb audio is not produced by the speakers... :)

Last Update - I hope :)

Talked to a new car salesperson. Explained my situation/concern. They understood my predicament a little better (basic idea of needing to know what was delivered with car) and graciously offered to do just a little more research. Got a call back same day with new information. They confirmed that the 2 cars I am looking at were delivered with SSP and said that the system has checkboxes for hardware and *enabled* and that service department was probably just misinterpreting. I think this settles my concern. I now have text message volley with Lucid employee stating car has SSP.

I will reiterate - in every step of this experience Lucid employees have been gracious, professional, and tried to be helpful. Just have to chalk it up to new / startup glitches in systems/information.
