Road Trip: Florida to NY AGT

First long road trip… won’t say it was easy, but we made it.
1. The surface temperature in Georgia reached 127. This caused serious issues with charging. Called for help, as we got worried we could neither continue on, nor return home. No answer from tech. When they finally called back, we had left the EA charging station to check into a hotel. He agreed to call me back, AND NEVER DID! Hubby did a search,and found the known problem when it’s too hot. Waited until sundown, went back and charged, no help from Lucid…Preconditioning is super important…
2. Using the Lucid navigation app, we were directed to a EV charging location at South of the Border in South Carolina. NOT FUNCTIONAL, maybe never has been. Fortunately, we had enough charge to get to an EA about 40 miles away, but now can’t trust the Lucid app…
3. Lots of discussion with fellow EV enthusiasts along the way. All agree, charging is the Achilles heal of long road trips.
We did enjoy the Dream Drive Pro, and props to NJ, along the NJ Turnpike, excellent charging at Apple Green along the way…

Ive had great experience with the ionna network down the east coast.

We’ve done the UP Michigan and Phoenix from the twin cities area and found only one that was out of service.
We do tend to keep 15-25% reserve when planning

I haven't run into any significant issues with charging on road trips.

I just did 2200 miles in 3 days TX to WA, and the only issue was a sketchy stop planned in the long stretch of charging desert between Wichita Falls and Amarillo TX.

The suggested charger wasn't one I recognized so I looked it up on Plugshare before I got there, to find it was often either busy or not working, AND cost $1/kWh, so I stopped early at a Tesla charger instead. Sucked having to sit there for 1hr18m at 47kw to get enough charge to make it to Amarillo, but it was better than being stuck at an expensive, broken charger in the middle of nowhere.

The rest of the trip was uneventful as far as charging goes, even the 255mi stretch between chargers in rural WY and ID - which had fully functional and fast chargers (Flying J and EA) on either end.

Hopefully that holds out as I leave tomorrow for the 3 day drive home, this time by a slightly different route which will take me through the middle of nowhere in Utah and New Mexico.

The only reliable charging network is Tesla. The newer ones such as IONNA, BP Pulse, Rivian Adventure Network, and Mercedes may be reliable - at least, I haven’t seen anyone complain about them.

If you go to any other charging station, I would strongly recommend using PlugShare or ABRP to see how reliable that station is. Electrify America (EA) is very much hit or miss and is infamous for their unreliability, although people are reporting the newer ones are pretty good.

The new Google Maps Places integration with Lucid’s native navigation in the 3.6.0 release may help eliminate the need for third-party apps, as you’ll be able to see the Google rating and other information about the charger. I’m looking forward to trying it out on my next road trip.
