Hello!
As a prior Tesla owner, it's nice to have the map up as I drive. When I get the map on the lower large display it seems to show the map on the smaller display above as well. If I change the display above to anything else (e.g. music), it then makes the map on the lower display go away. What I'm trying to achieve is having my Carplay music on the top display and the map on below display. I hope this makes sense. Anyone else try to get this to work by pinning the map on below? My old Tesla S could have the map always on the large screen.

Thank you in advance!

Are you trying to get a carplay map on the lower screen or the built in Nav map on the lower screen with CarPlay on top? The former isn't doable and I don't think the latter is either. I think once you're in CarPlay on top you're basically precluded from using native nav/map below. Someone correct me though.

Hello and thank you for the reply. I'm just trying to pin the map to the bottom and do anything else up top. Seems that can't be done from what I'm seeing. The screen below appears to only be useful if I'm actually changing settings like climate, seats, acceleration mode, etc. Would be nice to have maps going down there for reference.

As far as I am aware, pinning is not an option. While you can change what the bottom pilot panel shows, navigation is controlled by the cockpit panel and the navigation app can be pulled open to extend to the pilot panel, but is more like an extended app being driven off the top cockpit panel. It's not that intuitive and something we are learning to live with.

I caveat that I don't use the on board navigation so maybe there are workarounds.

Apple or Google Maps via CarPlay can’t be displayed on the Pilot Panel (lower display). But you CAN have native nav displayed there while CarPlay is broadcasting music or podcasts via the car’s audio (but not displaying its interface on either screen). So you will need to toggle between Nav and Home on the cockpit panel (and likely also hit the CarPlay button on the right) when you want to choose a new source for the CarPlay audio feed. (ie native nav will display on both screens while CarPlay audio plays, but nav will be on neither screen while you toggle to CarPlay to choose new audio—in a way not that different than how you have to toggle between Maps and Music/Podcasts apps within CarPlay to trigger a new audio source).

But yeah, while CarPlay has no access to the Pilot Panel to display Apple/Google Maps, it’d be nice if native Nav could happily run below while the CarPlay interface was running up top! As Pyle noted above, this seems to be because native Nav is “based” up top, with the lower screen as an extension (it does allow you to have the “big picture” route below while the immediate route is above, which is really its main use case for me in the rare times I use the native nav).
