For some reason, DDPro was completely unavailable on the trip out. No cruise control, no nothing. This was not a big deal because to traffic was so heavy that I would have had very limited use of any ADAS. When we got to our hotel, I did the brake-X-mic reset (I think that's what it was--I haven't reset my car much, so I always have to look up the procedure), but that didn't seem to resolve things. However when we got on the road for the trip home, everything was working. I find Hands Free to be really good, but I'm not 100% comfortable with it. Cruise control is flawless, but I wish you could allow the car to follow more closely than the car (on it's most aggressive setting) will allow. Every car I've owned has been like this.
Hands Free gets 8.75 out of 10. It is very good, but as others have said, the lane changes are just a little too aggressive. They're fine, but a little smoother would be better, and I suspect they will find the Goldilocks setting with the next update. Otherwise, it was great. I only had one or two bobbles when passing weirdly configured off-ramps, but that was about it.
This car is soooooooo much fun to drive. The ability to blast around some weirdo who feels it is ok to hang in the left lane doing 64 mph in a 65 mph zone is super cathartic. Yes I'm talkin' bout you blue Prius with Florida plates. The trip out took 5 hours, but the trip back took just 3.5.
One of the great things about the car for me is the infotainment system. I run almost everything through CarPlay, which works really well for me. SirusXM or content directly from my iPhone works perfectly (cell service required). Full disclosure: I never use anything other than CarPlay, so I don't experience some of the infotainment issues others may have mentioned here.
I don't want to drive anything other than my Air. My wife suggests taking her SUV from time to time, but I insist. On this trip, she really wanted to take her hybrid, because she was worried about range/charging etc. After seeing how far the car goes on a charge, and how easy it is to recharge overnight at a hotel, she is 100% sold. One note: she was commenting on how hard the seats were, and I showed her the heating/cooling and massage. She likey.
