As some of you may know, I've had a Lucid Pure on reservation since 1/21 and have looked forward to it ever since. We test drove the car once and really enjoyed it. However, for a variety of reasons, I've decided not to proceed further at this point.

We test drove the Genesis electrified G80 several times over the last week and were extremely impressed with it. It's a different car than the Lucid, emphasizing a bit more 'posh' over razor sharp handling. For my needs, at this stage of my life, that tradeoff is a reasonable one. The cost of admission is not much different than that of the Lucid. The Genesis is a bit over $81,000 vs the Lucid at $78,000 with the original pricing. So we took possession of the electrified G80 several days ago.

As we examined the Genesis, we found it offered features that were not available in the Pure that I ordered, some that were available in the higher trim options and some that weren't available at any Lucid trim level. These features include:

* AWD
* Heads up display
* Soft close doors
* 360 display
* 'Look ahead' ride control that adjusts suspension on the fly based on the roadway ahead
* Lexicon 1050 watt stereo with 21 speakers
* EZ entry & exit for both the driver & passenger
* Heat pump
* Remote control parking for tight spaces
* Nappa leather upholstery
* Massaging drivers seat
* V2L that is currently available

In our test drive and assessment of these features, I came to the conclusion as we often do in life, that some aspects of the Lucid are superior and some on the Genesis are superior for my needs. The overall package that the G80 offers is better for me at this point. I have no doubt that the Lucid is the better 'driver's car'. For that matter my BMW i4 is probably a better driver's car too. The Lucid offers significantly more rear seating space, but the Genesis rear seating is certainly adequate for the people who are likely to travel with me. But more importantly, there are a number of aspects of the Genesis that matter to me more.

In listening to both sound systems, I felt the Lexicon system sounded 'fuller' to me perhaps because the Lucid sounded a bit 'bass lacking', although the Lucid sound was still excellent. Is the Lucid more accurate? I have no idea, but as is often the case with sound systems, it's what sounds good to you.

The Genesis ride is excellent, cushioning most road irregularities to the point of them seemingly not being there. I didn't get to drive the Lucid enough to make an accurate comparison.

I found the Genesis to be a bit more silent, with less motor noise and no wind noise. Road noise was very nicely attenuated. Both cars are quiet, but I'd give the edge to the G80.

Trunk space was a win for the Lucid, with the Genesis offering sub-par trunk space, but again enough for my needs. My i4, with its hatchback design, is there for the rare times when I may need more.

The typical driver assistance features are there in the Genesis and are excellent, but I have a history of not using these features very often. How they compare to the Lucid I can't say as we were not allowed on the highway during our test drive. The Genesis has a 4.2 second 0-60 time, fast enough for me.

The issue of bulletproof software was a factor for me. The Genesis software is mature, stable and extremely responsive to use. The Lucid software may ultimately get there, but at this point it's not at the level of the Genesis.

The Genesis was delivered in perfect condition. Body panel alignment was perfect, paint was superb, zero rattles or creaks and all features I tested, including software, worked as designed.

The bottom line is that both of these cars are fabulous, they really are. Even on the subject of aesthetics, I find both cars beautifully styled but yet very different. I've already gotten a number of compliments on the G80, with most commenting how beautiful it was, but not knowing what it was. Sound familiar?

In the end, I wouldn't rule out that there could be a Lucid in my future and, to be honest, I haven't yet cancelled my reservation. I seriously doubt anything I've seen to this point with the Genesis would make me suddenly switch back, but there's certainly no harm in standing pat at this point.

For those unfamiliar with car, I'm attaching a picture. It's been great being a member of the community and I sincerely wish everyone well with their Lucids.

Best of luck to you. Nice-looking car.

I'll be sad to see you go from the forum! Beautiful car you have there, and I totally understand you wanting a more "posh" car as the i4 is already a good drivers car.

Good luck with the car. Less than 300 range and half the horsepower is a no-go for me.

Thanks, Bobby. In tests the G80 actually gets more like a 310-320 mile range (the Koreans like the Germans are conservative in their estimates and accordingly I can easily get considerably more than the 300 miles on my i4 despite its 282 EPA rating). That might still be a no go for you, but it's fine for me. Sure I would have preferred the 400 mile EPA rating of the Pure, but in reality that would probably turn out to be more like 360 miles in real-world driving. So the difference is not that great and wasn't a major factor in my decision.

As for HP, the 4.2 0-60 time is more than enough for me. Unlike many here, I have no need for 2 second 0-60 times. Remember I'm comparing a Pure to the G80.

Ah, thanks Bob. I tended not to spend much time on this the cancellation threads, so I never saw that. Interesting. I'm not sure if I'm now in good company or not. ;)

I'd love to get his 4.4 mi/kW, but I'm seeing closer to 3.7-3.8 at this point. I supposed it's doable given the conservative estimates of the Koreans. We shall see.

Sad to see you go. I wish and hope that Base Air Pure RWD, DDp comes sooner than later.

"...some aspects of the Lucid are superior and some on the Genesis are superior for my needs..."
"For my needs" is the keyword here.
Enjoy your new ride.
Stop by from time to time and give us some updates as my wife inquired about your new ride.

Barry was well liked. :) My wife and I just bought an Ioniq 5 Limited to go along with our Air so I get the Korean EV invasion :)

Best of luck on your Genesis. I’m sure you will enjoy it as it is a good car. I’ll agree with Bobby that the lack of range is why I did not consider it. We might look at it if/ when we need to replace the Sienna, but TBH, we would likely go with a SUV EV instead of a sedan, and will highly look at the Gravity.

Like my i4, I'm expecting considerably better than the EPA estimate. The weather here just turned warmer today and is about 70 degrees, so we just went on a relatively short trip, getting 4.4 mi/kW going and 4.0 mi/kW returning. So I really think mid 300s is very doable as it is with my i4. Very happy with these numbers and the car in general. :)

Congrats and enjoy! For a moment I really thought about the G90, they are cool, the chaebol car of choice (I watch too many K-dramas)!

I think ioniq 6 will be a home run. I need a small suv for dogs and AWD with 350 mile range. So I am waiting for the epa certification and Fisker Ocean to start shipping this month in Europe and next month in the US.
