Interior swapping or dying

Has anyone swapped, dyed or reupholstered the two tone interiors? I'm looking to pick up a preowned Dream and they all seem to have the two tone interiors that I can't stand. Don't get me wrong, on other cars I like interesting leather colors but not not the mis-matched front seats on the Lucid Air.

I don't get why I would want light colored seats and carpets in the back for my kids to get dirty. Also, why would I want to black front seats with light colored carpets to get dirty? If it was the opposite with black seats in back and black carpet so they would not show dirt for the kids I think I could get into it. But this makes no sense to me. I've had cars with light colored carpets and they drove me crazy.

Thus I'm thinking about either swapping carpets or dying them. In terms of seats I'm curious if I could find leather in the rear seat color and reupholster the the front seats to match. I really wish Lucid or some aftermarket company would provide a solution to unify the interior color.

I think the original concept was sporty upfront, luxury in the back seat area.

I don't buy the black=sporty narrative. There are plenty of sports cars that often have bright color interiors. You need only look to Ferrari's typical tan or any sports and racing cars from the 30s-60s which often had red, tan, green, blue and even pattern fabrics.

Years ago a friend who was early on the Lucid engineering team explained that the design was targeted at the China market where you would often have a driver for a car of this size and price. That's also why they optimized back seat space and comfort over having a hatch and better trunk access. The black front seats harken back to chaffered limos of the 1920-30s (Coupé de Ville, Town Cars or Town Broughams) when your drive would often have a more austere, utilitarian upholstery while the rear passenger compartment was more luxurious.

This seems like a really poor fit for the US market and the driver focus seems like excuse. How many people in the US really are chauffeured around in the back of their Lucid's vs. driving themselves + family? This premise seems way off for the US market. I understand that this makes sense for markets like China, but BYD is winning that game.

And if this is the case, why have the odd contrasting carpets and plastic seat bases in the front? If you want me to concentrate on the road, why have a light, contrasting carpet distracting me at my feet?

Personally, I love the two-tone look, which is one of the reasons why I bought the DE.

@Bobby is right; the intent was for the front to feel like a “cockpit” and the back to feel like “relaxed luxury”

You don’t have to like it; that’s fine. But that doesn’t make it any less true. :)

To each their own.

But who is riding in the back to experience this "luxury?" Personally, I don't think i've ever ridden the back of any of the luxury or sport sedans (7-series, S-class, M5, E63, Model S etc..) we have owned. I'm mostly driving or riding shotgun.

My wife also reminded me that she does not like black leather front seats because they are uncomfortable in the summer if she parks outside and wears short dresses, skirts or shorts.

Anyway, it sounds like no one is selling replacement seat covers to match the back seats. Tahoe front and rear seats with black carpets would be ideal.

I rode in the back with my sister-in-law today while my niece took shotgun and my wife drove 🤷‍♂️

I love driving but even I get tired sometimes. :)

I love riding in the back of the car. I don't do it often, but whenever I do, I feel like I'm in a limo.

I've never ridden in the back of my Air, but I do sit back there to work or relax. I'm also a two-tone fan. Personally, I think full Tahoe leather would be overpowering - the contrast is just a nice balance. It seems opinions are split on this in Lucid too, and obviously the Gravity went without two-tone.

Anyway, to each their own. There's nothing currently out there, but with enough money and motivation I'm sure you could get what you want if you reach out to some leatherworkers.

Not sure if anybody's mentioned new seat cover design but I had new seats covers designed & installed on my 23 honda accord hybrid with Katzin . They did a great job on changing the boring black leather out. Fyi i personally love the 2 tone black up front seats in my Air touring but I feel ya it's not for everyone. Good luck.
