How Did You First Become Aware of Lucid?

After leasing my first EV, Audi e-tron SUV (Audi fanboy at the time), in May of 2019, I started to read more and more and more about EVs. While the e-tron was familiar and comfortable I really couldn't drive it very far. Maybe 200 miles on a good day. Minimum of 4 charging stops between North Scottsdale and San Diego. A few moths later I stumble across an article about Lucid talking about its first vehicle, the Air with impressive range and efficiency. Total opposite to the e-tron. The key for me was understanding EV efficiency and that the e-tron was anything but efficient. Seven months into my 3 year lease I put a reservation deposit for my Lucid in December of 2019 the same month they broke ground on the Casa Grande AMP-1. Like many of us I waited patiently and kept following Lucid and others but kept coming back to the efficiency proposition of the Air. Once I finally test drove the Air the deal was sealed! We were in Hawaii on vacation when I got the invitation to confirm my configuration and order. My wife said I was like a little kid who just got the big boy bicycle!! Two weeks after I turned in the e-tron (and a hefty $14.5k payment from the dealer!) I took delivery of my 22 GT on March 8, 2022. Never looked back and with two Airs in the garage certainly no regrets.

I’d long been curious about EVs, but hadn’t seriously researched them. I have friends who were early adopters of Tesla, but looking to upgrade. One of them is 6’7” tall, and checked all of the EVs on the market a few years ago. He told us about Lucid, which he liked the best, except that the roofline was too low for him. I remembered that conversation later when we were visiting the Bay Area at Christmas of ’21 and happened to drive by the Studio in Millbrae and stopped to look. And ended up putting down a deposit.

I became aware of Lucid in the fall of 2023 through an Internet search for "EVs coming in the next two years".

I had retired at the beginning of the year and by the fall I decided it was time to treat myself to a new car.
Grew up in a family where one of my older brothers and one of my older sisters always drove Porsche, Corvette, Benz, BMW, or Jaguar.
I said when I retire, I'm getting my dream car; a Porsche. Hondas and Toyotas while my wife and I raised three children. And if I didn't live to retire, I'd already experienced driving nice cars.

I set 2025 as the year because I would be turning 65 and I kinda like doing milestone, memorable type things.
My daughter had bought a Genesis GV70 that summer and I liked its look, but needed something larger.
The GV80 appealed to me, but I decided I wanted something kinda future proof or at least heading in the direction the automotive industry might be headed.
That's when the idea of an ev came to me. I heard of Tesla back in 2006, but never liked its look.

The search results for upcoming EVs kept including the Lucid Gravity.
Cool, funky name "Lucid".
Did some research on the company's history and left it there.

The Genesis warranty on the electrified GV70 was impressive; including the extended warranty.
However, still too small. Same for Audi Q8 etron and others.
Kept coming back to Lucid.
Then I found out about the frunk! What the ..... !
Found out there's a showroom near me (just under 100 miles) in Tyson's Corner and a service center just across town. The planets were aligning.
Went to see Gravity prototype in May of 2024.

The final straw was in May when Genesis delayed the launch of their large size ev, the GV90.
I saw the preliminary designs which didn't include a large frunk.
Add in the amount of interior space, the glass roof, etc. I joined this forum that same month and be here ever since.

My first EV, or partial EV, experience was leasing a Honda Clarity in 2018. I soon realized what I wanted was a full EV. But it had to be a sedan or large compact with at least 400 mile range. So I kept my eyes on new models coming out and I started seeing info on Lucid in 2021. When they opened up the studio in San Diego, I put down a deposit. I actually didn't intend to buy; I just wanted to test drive it, and back then you needed a deposit to do a drive. But once I drove it, I wanted it really badly. The problem was the cost. Before this, the most expensive car I ever bought came in at $40K. It took a few months and lots of visits to the studio to drool over the car, but I finally switched the deposit to an order. That's part of why I love this car so much. For me, it is a once in a lifetime car. And I'm so happy that I bought it.

I had heard of the Lucid Air a while back when during its original launch, but at the time, I wasn’t ready to jump into EVs.

Then in Spring 2024 while we were on a family trip in CA, we happened to walk by the studio at Corte Madera and my daughter exclaimed “Daddy that’s my dream car” while pointing at the Lucid Air through the storefront. Since I was considering something new, I thought sure let’s check it out and decided to take a test drive with my wife, daughter, and son… and we were all impressed.

When we returned home I worked with our local studio in Natick and got the AT shortly thereafter. Still remained thrilled with the car… and my daughter still continues to say to this day that this is her dream car and always looks forward to being taken for long rides in it.

Specifically, their verdict for the E39 M5 -- "The most desirable sedan in the world. How sweet it is."

It was a long time ago and I was in a land far away, but those words stuck with me. I had the opportunity to drive all kinds of vehicles over the intervening years. In the back of my mind, I would always subtly benchmark whatever I was driving -- M-B, Lexus, Volvo, Audi, BMW, Porsche -- against those words, but nothing ever felt right.

Then I came across the 2021 MT Car of the Year award article as well as the Jason Cammisa Hagerty "time machine" video, and for the first time ever, I felt that this new car that seemingly came out of nowhere could actually be worthy of that same verdict from a quarter-century ago. It was a wild hypothesis.

I continued reading up (including on these forums -- thanks to all the mods and contributors) and watching videos, until I went for a test drive a year and half ago. My hypothesis had been proven right.

For various reasons, another six months went by, and then it was time for another test drive. At that point there was no hesitation. We had to pick the right spec for us and drive it home.

Which we did, exactly a year ago, to the day. Best car I've ever owned or driven. Thank you, Lucid.

That’s the first time I ever saw that video. OMG, the reclining rear seats!!!!! Too bad they never made it into production!

As an on-again/off-again follower of things automotive on the internet, I watched an early video review of the Air around 2021 or so. Weirdly, the only thing that stuck with me from that was that the trunk opening was a bit odd, and the fact that there are taillights mounted in the trunk - also odd. Otherwise, Lucid was just another electric car start-up.

Fast-forward to 2024 and my long, long, longtime daily driver (a 2005 Toyota Corolla - eat your hearts out Lucid guys coming over from Porsche or Audi) was starting to scream "replace me" every time I turned it on (not really, it just felt that way). I had been thinking for years that my next car would probably be electric, and assumed it would probably be a Tesla.

Lucid popped back up on the radar via their ads on Reddit. I started watching YouTube reviews and also the in-house Lucid tech videos and Munro tech videos and was really impressed. I also joined the Reddit subreddit on Lucid just to get a sense of the ownership community. So, when when I got serious enough about car shopping to start driving cars, I included Lucid. My sub-par Tesla test-drive experience (I swear, it is like Tesla doesn't actually want to sell anyone a car anymore), plus a friend going through battery hell with his Kia, plus really, really great lease offers from Lucid at the end of last year made Lucid my first choice in the end.

It's been an interesting (mostly good) vehicle experience. Also, I could be wrong, but I bet I'm on a short list who came to a Lucid Air from a 2005 Corolla. Sadly no conquest credit for me!

In 1974 lithium became my life when I was hired by a small mining/mineral company to produce battery-grade lithium from a brine deposit from Northern Chile. I sent hundreds of samples all over the world, almost exclusively for military applications. At that time lithium batteries were pretty exclusively used by the military, for all the obvious reasons: expensive as heck, highest energy density, tolerates heat and cold better, can sit on the shelf for years and hold charge, etc...

Our company sold lithium (from a hard rock mine in NC and brine deposit in NV) as the inorganic salts for the aluminum industry (lowers melt temp of Al = cost savings), organics for the pharmaceutical and rubber industry (lithium is very reactive = good for attaching/removing molecules in organic chem synthesis) and pure metal for batteries. I don't want to talk about the lithium 6 isotope extraction, which is the real reason the company existed.

I followed the development of the Roadster and the Model S = at the time far beyond my pay grade. Over that decade I went to see the Model S dozens of times, but was really turned=off by the interior and the huge TV that dominated it. Message is clear = Tesla is a computer first, and that's how Elon thinks. He is not a car guy. It kept getting worse over the years. People who were paying attention began to notice Elon ... a bit too much. Then I read about Atieva then about Peter, but I was too late to get on the Dream Edition list but so hyped I started buying stock. It suddenly shot up to well over $50/share so I sold = even after taxes I had a nice gain and a very positive message from the universe = this is the way!

I had been reading about EVs for some time. Had never driven one. I was aware of the Lucid at the time because it has such huge range, but I thought it was way too expensive for me and didn't even consider it. So I somehow ended up spending the same amount of money on an Audi e-tron GT (long time Audi owner). Beautiful car--amazing to drive.

I had been following EV developments and Tesla for years since the roadster and as a car guy, but it was this video with Ben Collings (Top Gear Stig); that really got my attention that they were serious, with serious car people involved. Since then, I became an investor in CCIV and now leasing an Air which will then turn into a Gravity....

I had been reading up on Lucid, but didn't think I'd ever get one at that point. I remember watching that and wondering if it was a Lucid ,and looking it up. I think that was it's first appearance on the screen. It made me want it even more than I did already!

Last July I took my wife for lunch in my Tesla Model Y. She felt sick due to the poor drive quality. She said that she will never sit in my car again. She also told me that my kids hated the ride quality as well. I did not know about it. This led me to look at other EVs. I consider polestar, Rivian, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Lucid. Once I test drive the Lucid with my wife with me there was nothing close to it. I got my Lucid in mid August. Previously I had read about Lucid and it range and performance. Rivian range was too low. Polestar had similar ride quality issue. My wife hated Hyundai look. Lucid had a very good quality of ride for both driver and passengers.
