HOU-TX - Gravity Demo Experience

Hey everyone,

My family and I recently completed a two-day overnight demo of the Lucid Gravity Grand Touring, and I wanted to share our impressions. We were really excited to get behind the wheel and see what the hype is all about! We were so impressed, we ended up ordering an inventory vehicle on the spot. Here’s a breakdown of what stood out for us along with the entire timeline.

For context, we're coming from a Volvo XC90 PHEV and were in the market for an EV family hauler that would fit rear facing car seats without compromising front passenger space. We also needed it to be long range since we travel quite frequently from Houston to Dallas.

Summary
We loved our demo overall, and ended up finalizing ordering our Gravity GT yesterday (11/21), with an ETA for delivery on Wednesday 11/26/25. Special shout out to our SA Paul who's been fantastic the entire process so far. Here's the full timeline

• 11/17 - Went in to demo the Air GT, ended up briefly driving the Gravity GT demo and loving it a lot more than the Air GT
• 11/19 - Requested for an overnight demo experience of the GGT
• 11/19 - Paid the $1000 deposit to reserve an inventory GGT which was in production and have it shipped to Houston)
• 11/20 - Picked up the demo vehicle from the SA (it was nice meeting halfway in midtown instead of going across town to the North Houston studio to pick up the car)
• 11/20 to 11/22 - Test drove the car and "lived" with it (we did something similar with the Rivian R1S and Tesla MX as well previously)
• 11/22 - Our car has arrived at the dealership, and is going through QA and detailing
• 11/26 - Scheduled to get delivery of our GGT!

The Good – What We Loved

• Seriously Spacious: The interior is genuinely impressive – tons of room for 7 passengers and cargo.
• Premium Feel: The materials are top-notch, and the overall driving experience is refined. Road noise is remarkably well-cancelled.
• Usable Third Row: This isn’t a “for occasional use” third row – it’s actually comfortable and functional, and I (6ft) was able to comfortably sit with the middle row all the way back
• Clever Storage: Lots of well-placed cubbies and storage compartments, with nice touches like the folding tables in the middle row
• Smooth Ride: The driving experience is smooth and comfortable even in the terrible Houston roads
• Easy Access: The lower ride height makes ingress/egress a breeze, even with car seats.
• Intuitive UI: The user interface is easy to learn and use, and we didn’t really miss CarPlay.
• Stable Software: Software version 3.3.9 has been very stable during our demo, and we didn't see a lot of the issues earlier builds/versions experienced
• Game-Changing Door Openings: The 90-degree door openings front and middle row are a huge convenience for family life.

The Not-So-Good – Areas for Improvement:
TL;DR - SA advised us that most if not all the issues with the demo was common for 2025 builds, software related and mostly addressed in the 2026 year builds. These tbh didn't bother us a whole lot since we knew what we were getting into with a 1st year model release

• Price vs. Value: The Grand Touring's price tag is significant. The Touring model might be a better value if range and charging speeds isn’t a top priority.
• Range Discrepancy: We noticed a large variance between the EPA-estimated range and the range we saw in dynamic driving. Not sure if this is because our vehicle was a demo
• Night Camera Quality: The rear and side cameras are pretty disappointing in low light but I was told this could improve in a subsequent software update
• Quality Control: We encountered a few minor QA issues – a sticky front door, and a slight misalignment in the rear trunk. These are reported to be improved in the 2026 builds.
• Key Fob Issues: The key fob occasionally fails to recognize the key, displaying a “missing key” message. No phone-as-a-key functionality yet but we were told by the SA that these are coming soon
• Practicality Lapses: No kick-to-open boot, and the low trunk door height requires care to avoid head bumps if you're tall
• Audio Concerns: The microphone quality isn't great but the SA (once again) advised us this could be a faulty demo vehicle
• Sound System Comparison: While the Surround Sound Pro is good, it doesn't quite match the Bowers & Wilkins system in our current XC90.

Yep. They asked me what I’d need to make my decision and I said it was important for my entire family to live with the car before I made my decision. They were super accommodating and flexible to make sure I was taken care of

That's a long way from the quick around the block test drives they've been allowing until now. They clearly intend to move the existing inventory

Yup. My one and only demo drive a few months back was basically 10 mins with a quick enter and exit off the highway and with an SA who was silent the whole time. With my car just completing production, going to call them up today for a longer solo test drive to help with the decision of going through, delaying, or looking elsewhere. A couple days of overnight demo like OP had would be fantastic but doubt they have the capacity here (Bay Area) for that. Need to really try and see if I can live with the intermittent software issues. As much I enjoy being an early adopter for a lot of things, my non-tech savvy wife will be driving this car as well.

There is a good chance your car and mine arrived on the same transport. I was told my GGT arrived in Houston on Friday 11/21 and was in PDI but no word back on when delivery. Mine is same spec as yours but green with mid-size wheels. Decent chance we may both be picking up our cars around same time on Wed.

I was unaware that they offered anything other than short test drives, which is all I've had. I've been considering rejecting delivery of my GGT next week, but now I think I'll ask my SA if I can borrow it for a day or two before I make my decision. The problem may be that just a minimal drive home and then directly returning it will add 186 miles to the odometer, which might be an issue for them.

I was unaware that they offered anything other than short test drives, which is all I've had. I've been considering rejecting delivery of my GGT next week, but now I think I'll ask my SA if I can borrow it for a day or two before I make my decision. The problem may be that just a minimal drive home and then directly returning it will add 186 miles to the odometer, which might be an issue for them.

If you're still this worried; I will say decline. I do, however, think that the reliability of the car has greatly improved even the dreaded key fob issue has mostly been fixed. Most car pickup lately don't have much of the issues reported earlier. In the end it's your choice.
