Hey Lucid, I know you can hear me, why won’t you do what I ask?

About one month into my Gravity ownership and have off and on played with Lucid Assistant - “Hey Lucid” functionality (or should I say non-functionality.) Using it for phone calls seems to mostly work as long as I use first and last name. Navigation is a very hit or miss experience. I even tried it with Tidal, first time it worked great when by myself, next time in the car I tried to show it to my wife and has not worked since.

One of the main issues I have noticed is that Lucid Assistant definitely understands what I am saying but when that info is passed off to the appropriate app, things collapse. Such as Navigation. The other day I tried saying “Hey Lucid, take me to xxx Haver St” and the Lucid Assistant displayed on the screen those exact words, but once Navigation was pulled up it gave me a couple different choices of xxx Paver St. Then when I tried again, Lucid Assistant also displayed the correct Haver St. but then the nav system gave me choices of Haverstock St. I then manually type in the xxx Haver St. address and nav system immediately pulls it up correctly. With Tidal, most of the time Lucid Assistant will accurately display my command for a certain artist but then do nothing with it.

So, this is not a problem with Lucid Assistant not understanding my voice, it is definitely a software collapse when this info is passed on to the appropriate app. Not being a software expert this seems hard to understand. The system first accomplishes what seems to be the very hard part of translating my spoken command into written text but then can’t seem to do what should be a very easy task of just copy/paste that text into another app.

Is this the normal experience or am I doing something wrong?

It’s some generic assistant shoehorned into it. In the Air it can’t even open the glove box, then gives me instructions for some other car on how to open it 😂

Told it turn my heated seat on, it says it can’t, then tells me to push the button on the seat.

There’s no button on the seat 😭

Can't speak to your specific question but the developers seem to play this a bit loosely. There is a street near me called Shipmaster Drive. It will find and navigate there fine but it the nav voice clearly changes the "p" to a "t". I have to mute the navigation voice in my Tesla with kids in the car. 🤔

Well here's another thing I've never tried in the Air because it didn't work in my last car. Is it worth even screwing with?

Voice assistant is crap in every car…..don’t get bothered by it.

In my current and past Mercedes voice assistant works virtually all the time for phone calls and 90% of the time for navigation via POIs. I don’t expect Tesla’s Gronk integration to read me today’s news, I just want it to do the 3 main things I would do in a car while driving - make a call, pull up a navigation and point change my tunes. If I need to open the glove box I can hit that button.

Have you driven every car?

Google's voice assistant works very well at controlling our other EV, as does its native Google navigation. It's also pretty capable at answering random questions, and integrates with our Home Assistant/Google Home stuff so I can use voice to check if I closed the garage doors (and close them if I didn't), turn on lights as we arrive, etc. It's the exact same voice assistant we use in our home many times per day.

I'll be weighing this very heavily when I replace my Air with an SUV in 2026.

You can’t expect Lucid voice assistant to interact with google home.

I use Lucid voice to adjust AC settings. I use Siri to make phone calls. Both work perfectly in these situations. Just improvise.

I never use Lucid navigation, I just use CarPlay.

I don’t see why this is an issue.

I've used both CarPlay and Android Auto, and find them both to be a kludge that doesn't integrate well with the car. Tiny screen and occasional connectivity issues, no EV route planning.
I want a vehicle that is capable on its own and "just works" with the way we live. There are many available now, and more are coming soon.

If you're an iPhone user and enjoy CarPlay, that's great, honestly.

The move to AI is going to change our world. It has already produced at least one honest contractor. I got this text message today from my landscape irrigation outfit:
