Met with a tinting specialist this week and they recommended that we DO NOT TINT the glass canopy because the glass could crack. He had seen this in Teslas that had the glass canopy tinted. It is awfully hot in the car and it feels as if the sun is beating down into the car. Would love to learn what others think about getting the glass canopy tinted. While insurance will cover cracks, still thinking whether it's prudent to tint.

If your glass roof cracks from window tint, then its 💩 glass. It comes pre-tinted anyway.

Sounds like the shop is being overly dramatic. Get it tinted to your hearts content.

The original tinting is on the outside of the glass so the heat is being reflected out. When you add window film, it's on the inside so all the heat being reflected is directed back to the glass. Most multi-pane home windows will void the warranty if film is applied to the inside pane causing too much heat buildup in the window (multiple tinting companies warned me of this - this was years ago so could be outdated info now). I know when companies started coming out with heat rejecting windows, there were youtube videos of melted vinyl siding or burned plants from reflected heat from the glass. Maybe in Seattle, it isn't too much of a concern but I wouldn't want to test it in the Southwest.

Not sure the fixation many members have about me living in Seattle. I spent most of my life in South Florida with tinted sunroofs! I've never had an issue.

I mean how quickly do these cracks form? I've left my car in 105 weather for 8 hours with no problem? Got a 70 tint on my windshield

I wouldn’t compare Tesla build quality to Lucid. Tesla does a lot of things right, but build quality is not one of them.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Tesla uses lower quality glass that is more likely to crack.

When you say canopy do you mean the rear roof or the windshield?

My personal opinion is it’s just their excuse.

My PPF guy told me, they have some work for the curve glass and the sun visor ring base they had to cut out to cover. Maybe your guy didn’t want to go thru that hassle.

Sure, they are looking out for you such big glass will get cracked one day by road flying pebbles and waste your window shield and tint along with it, but that is just their opinion. It’s your money.

Posted on a different forum. What @SDHacker said is what I was told. My guess is that it is rare, but for me, the question was whether I felt I needed it. I haven't. And as far as rocks go, yeah, that's why I won't tint my windshield, but my guy was talking specifically about the roof glass. But again, I've really had no issues without the additional tinting and neither have my passengers sitting in the back. I live in PHX.

I am still debating doing a windshield tint just to the visor or a full windshield tint 70. My PPF Tint guy says it is impossible to get a defect free install of a full windshield due to the size and they would require a liability form to be signed. Would love to hear from owners that have done a full windshield tint and their experience.

I had my AGT fully tinted including the windshield. I used 80 on the windshield, 35 on the driver/passenger windows and 20 on the back windows. The windshield tint is very clean and clear. You may find a tiny bubble but not noticeable. I had mine done at XPEL tint on Frank Lloyd Wright.

If you live in a hot climate such as Texas or AZ then it seems the Tint is definitely required. It seem to help with the AC in the cabin as well.

Was it a full windshield tint and you would do it again?

Yes it was a full windshield tint and I would definitely do it again. Living in AZ it is a must. I had a Tesla 90D and didn't get it tinted and wish I had!

I also got full windshield tint and see no bubbles or lines. The glare from the sun is also reduced. The heat reduction is noticeable, so I'm glad I did it. I haven't noticed a glare from oncoming headlights at night yet either, but haven't really driven too much at night yet. Your tint guy just needs to do more to get comfortable with it.

Thanks for the info. I appreciate it. Did you do a 70 for the windshield?

Just an FYI I got my roof tinted windshield tinted and it is a project The guy really has to know what they're doing our guys located right near lucid and they got first hand instructions from some tips on how to disassemble the interior properly and install the material I'll be posting pictures probably by the end of this week as soon as the car is back from the wheel shop but you really need to find somebody that can do the job correctly and in one piece so it looks clean and factory
