Front defrost turns off will turn on the AC

Who: anyone turning the front defrost off

When: the front defrost is turned off (drivers side button or center console) the AC button will turn on. The fan does spin down and now blows cold air.

Expected: turning the front defrost off, the system ,should resume all previous settings

I noticed this also affects the passenger side of the middle row so i need to toggle it on and off. Off returns normal hvac function.

Front defrost automatically turns AC on as that helps better remove condensation & moisture which all AC units every made for anything do very well. Works exactly the same as my MB S class I had before this. I have no idea why car co think it's a good idea to keep it on when you turn off the defrost.

Automobile HVAC systems are really black arts.
The AC button on doesn't mean the AC is necessarily running and cooling air, it means the HVAC system could run the AC unit if it wants.

Same in principle, but in practice our ICE BMWs did a far better job heating the cooled air. On our Gravity, the air coming out in Defrost is decidely cool, as if the heater can't fully compensate. That said, the Defog/Defrost setting in Gravity works really well to defog, it just makes the passengers uncomfortable.
