Great take, but I don't think the article is correct in saying that all Airs come with three years of complimentary Electrify America charging. In fact, I don't think any do at this point?

One or two years for the new Airs with a 1000kwh charging cap.

Just got confirmation from the Miami Design Studio at the Worldcenter (not the Studio at Brickell City Center) that the Aurora Green Gravity that will be on display tomorrow will be available to sit in between the hours of noon and 2:00 p.m. Looks like a drive over to Miami tomorrow . . . .

Gotta check out that squircle and second- and third-row seating.

This might mean that Release Candidate cars are now in circulation?

Yesterday the Design Studio said they weren't sure which car they were getting. If it was the one from the L.A. Auto Show, visitors would not be able to sit in it. If it was a recent build, we would. When I called back today, that had received confirmation they were getting one in which customers could sit. (As we had already driven across state twice to see one of the L.A. show Gravities, we weren't going to make the trip without confirmation we could try it on for size this time.)

Still no test driving, though.

Don't forget Edmunds is now owned by Carmax, since Lucid doesn't make many vehicles, they can't make a lot of money on used Lucid's so probably affects their ratings.

There's also a possibility that original reservation holders who haven't bought the car yet can get it. That was the case for me, just around when they were getting rid of it as a standard offering. I don't know how big a selling point it is though. It was for Tesla a decade ago, when people were questioning whether EVs could be used for long distance trips. My recommendation to an original reservation holder would be to consider dropping that and using a referral code instead, depending on whether they get any other benefits and how much they plan to charge away from home.

I don't anticipate that many people would make a buying decision based on whether or not they get free charging, but a decade ago I had to explain to far too many people that not only is it more convenient to charge from home, but the per mile depreciation from driving to charging stations could easily cost them more than paying for the electricity at home. Plus, if they consider their personal time worth even minimum wage, and they wouldn't drive somebody else's car to a charging station, charge it and drive it back for the cost of the electricity for a home charge, then they shouldn't do it for their own car.

I would doubly confirm if I were you. I saw the green one in Beverly Hills the other day and it could not be touched or sat in. They told me it was going to Miami next as well, so you may have received some bad intel.

I will be there. We are planning on attending the event just to see the Gravity and to hopefully convince my wife. See you there!

I did. On Thursday the sales rep put me on hold to call his regional manager to ask whether Miami was getting the one that could be sat in. He came back on and told me they were 90% certain it was but would know for sure on Friday. I called early Friday afternoon and was told they had confirmation that the car could be sat in. I reiterated to him that I had already seen the Gravity twice (once in West Palm Beach and once at the Miami-Brickell studio) and did not want to make the drive over if I could not sit in the car. He said that the car was already at their site and absolutely could be sat in.

But I admit things can get bizarre in Lucid salesrooms. The first time I saw the Gravity at West Palm Beach, I was emailed a "special invitation" ahead of time for a limited viewing between certain hours on a certain day. We timed our almost 3-hour drive to arrive during that window. When we got there and said we had that "special invitation", the sales rep seemed confused and said she knew nothing about a special viewing. She said the car had been in the showroom since the day before, and all the walk-in customers had been able to see it on the same terms we could. But while we were standing there, out came some people with trays of food to set up the buffet for the "special event" about which the sales rep knew nothing.

And this Miami viewing is strange, too. On my first call I was first told it would be on view only between the hours of noon-2:00 p.m. on the 28th. My partner had a league tennis match that morning, so it was going to be tight for us to get to Miami within that window. The sales rep said not to worry. The car would be on the floor and could be checked out any time up until their closing time. On my second call (on the 27th) to confirm sitting in the car, I was told the car was already on the showroom floor.

It seems that Lucid HQ Marketing sets up all these special events and terms, and the studios just wing it once the cars get there. I sometimes wonder if Marketing even communicates with the showrooms.

We went to the Miami event and we were allowed to seat in any of the seats including the frunk. The green color is awesome. My wife wants one now! Yay.
