Good afternoon,
Recently ordered a lucid. My home has NEMA 14-50 plug with a 40 amp breaker. Planning on getting a travel charger. From my understanding you can't adjust amperage that the touring draws. I know the travel charger draws 40amps but since it's continuous would that trigger the breaker? If yes what are the solutions for my problem apart from getting a full new circuit installed would really like to not do that if I don't have to.

It would likely trip the breaker but more importantly it would be unsafe. The simplest solution would be to either increase the breaker to 50A if wiring and panel can handle it or downsize the breaker to 30A and switch the outlet to a 14-30. The lucid mobile charger has an available 14-30 adapter.

I read on some forums that the charger draws whatever the circuit provides so is that incorrect then?

The Lucid mobile chargers will draw the max current that the outlet can support. It will draw 40A from the 14-50 adapter or 24A from the 14-30 adapter. The EVSE has no way of knowing what size breaker the circuit is on.

There are also many highly-rated alternatives to Lucid's mobile charging adapter which are less expensive and can be set by wifi/phone app or dip switches to 32 amp maximum draw, which would be compatible with your existing 40 amp circuit breaker. The only advantage Lucid's unit has is that it can do bidirectional charging (RangeXChange) if you buy their RangeXChange adapter as well.

Agree. If you want to stay with a plug-in the Chargepoint Flex can be purchsaed as a plug-in for a 40 amp circuit to charge at a continuous 32 amps. If you convert to a hard wired version, the amp choices become much greater.

In addition to the Lectron and Chargepoint there are many others as well.

If you are interested in car to car charging, the Lucid mobile with RangeX cable is your best choice. You can also avoid changing your existing outlet by using an adapter like this - https://a.co/d/9CLKuyh
If the car to car charging isn't important, I would go with one of the excellent (and cheaper) alternative options that @DeaneG listed.
