Exactly. Competition is a good thing. Up here in Canada in general people are excited for Chinese EVs to arrive because that means it'll force legacy manufacturers to compete. The Chinese EV companies have been aggressively hiring in preparation for their rollout here.

I like competition; but I hate unfair competition. If you're all willing to let these in; you have got to fight for US automakers to receive as much subvention as the Chinese get. It cost a lot more to make cars in America than in China and it's not all on the automakers.

I'm Canadian, we've already cut back on tariffs on Chinese EVs, and we're in the process of negotiating their setup in Canada to include Canadian labour. Even BYD has expressed they're open to setting up manufacturing in Canada.

True on higher labor costs. But the main "subsidy" in Ch is done thru access to lower cost capex, not the government cutting a check to consumers and brands for each car sold. A good way to incentivize innovation, investment and growth.

Yeah, I was referring into the government actually investing into R&D, infrastructure, manufacturing, and logistics. Not directly providing direct cash payments to consumers (although it does help to an extent)

That's all very well but sticking our head in the sand and see where that gets us. Oh yeah combustion engines that are easily out performed by Japanese and European vehicles and stay where we are with American auto companies that have little to offer. We could always try negotiation like Canada and Europe. There is some precedent for that here in the US given the German, Japanese, and others built their vehicles here.

"Where did all the affordable cars go" That was a well written article and worth the read. It certainly highlights that the American Auto Industry is seriously stuck in a mindset that will ultimately define their dying industry. It was interesting that Ford was looking for a partnership with BYD and I heard today that Ford are repurposing their battery development division to building storage batteries as Tesla are doing!
