I have *no clue* when or how this happened, but clearly it did :( Thankfully it looks to not have gouged the body work, though it does look like it went down to the plastic. Any recommendations for paint work in the SF bay area, or general words of support and encouragement? Thx in advance.

Found a local shop that actually has prior Lucid experience (!!) and gave me a surprisingly affordable quote of $500 (versus, say, $40,000 to replace a few body panels). This is the fastest emotional turnaround I've ever experienced within 30 min. I'll report back since I'm taking it in tomorrow AM and they expect to have it completed EoD.

general words of support and encouragement
"Bro you got a Porsche to tide you over, you'll be just fine" 🤣

In all seriousness, when did you notice it, and how much time prior did you not see it (eg: if you saw the car with damage at 3, did you see that there was no damage at 12:30)? And where was it parked during this time? If it was in a parking garage or somewhere similar, there's a chance CCTV could be checked to support your insurance claim (if you do decide to go that way). Also, do put this in the Bay Area Group to find some members who can hopefully help with body/paint shops.

This is a group for Bay Area owners.

It also appears that this is near the front of the car, and if it does somehow require replacement of the body panel, I would make an educated guess based on other people's experience with damage to this area that it would sadly be very complicated. Very sorry to see this damage, and hopefully it is only "minor" (relatively) paint damage. Best of luck in getting your baby back as soon as possible!

Okay, then just forget literally everything I just said 🤣

Ok actually that was hilarious, and did just the trick :)

Fortunately it looks/feels superficial, even if the emotional impact is not, so I'm feeling hopeful since, from the moment I started reading about various chance encounters with errant automatic gates from other forum members, I've been terrified to get closer than a foot from a concrete wheel stop. That process is usually a two-person job, or involves many trips back and forth from the drivers seat and outside the car.

Will report back either way, and thanks for the additional recommendations and levity @xponents !

Which shop did you end up going to?

Which shop did you end up going to?
Classic Auto Body & Paint
533 W San Carlos St, San Jose, CA 95126

They were the first call I made to a place that was actually a paint specialist (with the reviews focusing on paintwork) and not an auto body repair place that was kind enough to be willing to do paintwork and charge 5x as much. Seemed too good to be true and we shall ser, but after reading reviews and speaking with the owner, fwiw, I feel confident to give them a shot. If they succeed, I think I've found my forever paint shop that I hope to never need ever again.

BAY AREA!! GO SEE GEORGE!!

$500 out the door (1/6 of some quotes I got), amazing job, and done in 24 hours. Apparently he offers special rates if you're not using insurance. Great guy to work with and also great "service staff" in the waiting area :) It actually was his first Lucid and he's ready to buy one now himself after driving mine to the car wash and back. Great guy, great price, and an ally!

Gotta say, that paint mixing was done very well. Add it to the Bay Area group!

Done! Like, somehow I feel this was a net dopamine-positive incident, as the favorable experience dealing with George (and his doggos) outweighs the negative experience of discovering the damage. Don't get me wrong, there are definitely better ways to have a good time, but still that's not at all how I was expecting this to play out. I was even able to enjoy SXM on the drive home! George! George! George!

Cute dogs, too. More stores should have that! Hopefully they don't bite though, lol

Agreed! Friendliest fur babies I've met, as are all pitties (like any other breed) who are properly cared for and trained. Without a doubt the breed with the most undeserved rap, which is 100% a function of their owners, and another reason they're often the most common in shelters. Another reason George is a hero.
