Battery Subscription and Swapping?

I was thinking about how the need for range in a small portion of my car’s utilization means car manufacturers need to skimp on other aspects I value more 90% of the time.

Would battery subscription and swapping mitigate that? Charging speed improvements (with less degrading batteries) and battery production costs would also decrease the need to compromise in order to get range.

I remember Tesla’s pilot mostly failing. But as batteries become the defining commodity, is there a point in which manufacturers benefit by controlling them, and the consumer benefits from not buying unused capacity?
