Hello Everyone.

Has anyone been having any issues with Android Auto "seemingly" removing text from your phone. As an example, I can receive a text while driving (although I can't recall if it pops up on the car screen/dash/pilot panel, I would assume it does) and l can see/read the text on my watch but when I go to my phone and open the messages app, it seems to no longer exist. This has happened a few times to the point where I had to message someone to send me a screenshot of their screen (so that I can see the message that I should have in our thread/chat) to confirm that they did indeed respond to me. It's consistent when I'm driving and AA auto is connected through Bluetooth. I'm doing some queries online to see if its a known or Android Auto specific issue and not a Lucid & AA issue.

Curious if others have seen anything similar.

Yep, absolutely. Sorry for not noticing this post here until now. I made a post in Google Messages support some time ago thinking it to be an issue with the app, but I have also narrowed it down to the car. I can confirm it's not related to Android Auto as I've witnessed it happening both before its initial implementation and after I disabled it with just the Bluetooth connection.

Also worth mentioning: I switched phones a few months ago. When I did the swap I used "SMS Backup and Restore" to bring all my messages over to the new phone. I was meticulous about documenting the missing messages, and was able to see the missing messages in the restore app and on my new phone after doing the transfer. They are still missing from the original phone in Messages (and also in the Messages browser application if you sync). So whatever the car is doing to eat the messages isn't actually deleting them, but hiding them somehow.

I have continued to see new messages getting "eaten" on the new phone as recently as today. Another tip: you don't need a screenshot from the other side to confirm you arent crazy. You can check your notification history as shown below:

Could the missing messages be archived? Open up the Messages app on your phone, tap your profile photo at the top right corner, then "Archived" to see what's there.

You can't archive individual messages, only the entire chat thread so that would be very noticeable. But no they're not archived.

Kind of, but it only happens to me when I'm NOT using Android Auto. It was happening to me before the Air even got AA.

I haven't had it happen while using AA but it happens quite frequently when I'm using the native BT interface from Lucid.

Interesting. I wish I knew the exact trigger because it's of course not every time. I've tried having my wife message and reacting to it different ways with both the phone and the car but didn't really narrow anything down.

The one that happened today occurred when I received two messages from different threads during the drive (notification history shown on SS above). One was RCS and the other MMS. The MMS is what was eaten.

I think all the ones I've had eaten were just RCS messages.

My original post in the Google Messages support said they were all RCS messages with iPhones, but that isn't the case any longer as the latest message was a MMS from another Android in a group chat.

I'm not sure if the earlier scenarios were also "messages from multiple people during the same drive" because that wasnt on my radar at that point yet. It is now though!

Just ran into this issue on my Gravity. Someone texted me with some important info, I listened to it via the car, and now I can't find the text message to look up the details. It hasn't been archived, just vanished. Definitely add that to the list of bugs that has to be fixed!

Any chance you clocked whether or not you got messages from multiple different people during that drive?

I'm glad I found this thread as I thought I was going crazy! When I found out a couple of months ago that I wasn't hallucinating these missing messages I began blaming my phone (I have an oppo n5 find that isn't available in NA so I blamed it this as I had never experienced this with my Samsung prev and I've owned my car for about 3y now). I have experienced this with group chat (2x iPhones and my Android) and with individual (android to iPhone). I have turned rcs off for a while now due to meesages not being sent (different problem) so I'm sending text messages through the carrier network.

Its actually quite a nussaince to have messages eaten up randomly. I hope they fix this soon
