No. It's the rules around EPA mileage reporting. They only test the range in Smooth Mode, so it has to default to that. If they tested the range in all three modes and reported it that way, they wouldn't have to default back each time.

I suspect that the Air has poor antenna design. That could explain many of the unlocking problems as well as poor connectivity.

You could turn off passive unlocking for the car. Then it won't unlock and power up unless you press on a door handle (or use the app or pushbutton on the fob).
