Miles remaining is calculated based on the EPA rated range which assumes a 4.6 mi/kWh efficiency. If you're not getting 4.6 mi/kWh or more, you're range remaining will always decrease faster than the miles traveled.

That's what happens to me too often (several times just today). But I'm using my paak and I'm confident that my phone is at least partly to blame. So I'll say in fairness that I haven't tried going back to the fob recently which might be better yet less convenient.
