Engineering Explained joining the Lucid Lemon Club

Dlala told me today that there would be an upcoming software "fix" for this issue. If they don't replace the bad chip, though, I'm not sure I want to drive this car except locally until the software fix is issued and confirmed to work. And I don't know if the chip can be replaced without...

Engineering Explained joining the Lucid Lemon Club

Something I don’t understand is why the software fix that Lucid says is coming to address this drive unit problem has not been implemented by now. It showed up in our and other Gravities at least 10 months ago . . . and this is not an ambient Vibe lighting error. It can leave people stranded...

Engineering Explained joining the Lucid Lemon Club

I’ve been thinking back to what happened last summer in this car, and more details are coming back to me. We were making a similar trip to north Georgia when the car got the same alerts and went into the same power limitation (52 mpg) about 30 minutes south of Atlanta. Customer Care told us to...

Engineering Explained joining the Lucid Lemon Club

No, I don’t think he lied. It was him who sent me that message after he got in touch with the Engineering team. (It is a Saturday on Memorial Day weekend, after all.) It’s apparently a rare occurrence that even he might not have front of mind. However, even if I had known to try a power...

Engineering Explained joining the Lucid Lemon Club

We’re over 100 miles down the road in a rental car and got the following message from Lucid: “After further review with Engineering, it has been determined that the vehicle experienced a rapid power cycle, which registered a fault in the RDU. Once this fault occurred, it caused the vehicle to...

Engineering Explained joining the Lucid Lemon Club

It turns out that they had started a lemon law case on the car back in February without my knowing it. I only found out when a contract lawyer Lucid was having review the cases called me. I told him to stop the review as I did not want to get rid of the car. Yet.

Engineering Explained joining the Lucid Lemon Club

Just heard from Emad Dlala. It’s the rear drive unit that failed this time. It was the front drive unit the prior time. Apparently the result of a faulty chip in the inverter both times. Note that Dream Editions use the same motors on both axles, wheread GTs have a smaller front motor...

Engineering Explained joining the Lucid Lemon Club

Uber sent a Honda Odyssey to take us to Enterprise. This was the car we sold to clear our garage of ICE cars when we got our second Gravity. I’ve never had such a wave of nostalgia and regret sweep over me.

Engineering Explained joining the Lucid Lemon Club

We’re sitting at a Buc-ee’s in central Georgia, over 500 miles from home, waiting for an Uber and a tow truck. Stranded for the second time on a road trip in our older Gravity. And again with the same symptoms of a drive unit failure. I may start my own YouTube channel.

Car locked with child inside and would not unlock

What I don’t understand is how our Gravities will go through several days of flawless locking/unlocking using the fob and then suddenly return to utterly bedeviled behavior. We’re on a road trip right now in our older Gravity, and the door situation is just driving us nuts. This happens even...

My totally unsolicited idea on how to improve Lucid Service

Same here. My disdain of traditional car dealers has a lot more to do with the sales room than the service department.

    Gravity Bugs / Issues

After a couple of days of flawless unlocking/locking behavior, the gremlins returned two days ago. If the car responds to the fob, it does so only after a long delay (10-20 seconds). I have removed and reinserted the battery and finally today replaced it. But the problems continue, often...

Effect of Tire/Wheel Choice on Gravity Range

Interesting thought. We have the mid-size wheels on one Gravity and the largest wheels on the other. I check the tire pressure every couple of weeks on both and set it to 43 psi. There is a bit less tire noise from the mid-size Michelin Primacy Tourings — a tire that gets high ratings for low...

    The Long Goodbye

We're back in a window where the unlocking/locking issues with our newer Gravity have receded, as they do periodically. Emad Dlala had earlier asked for current videos of the behavior when the audio pauses in both cars when any two of our Lucids are on the road at the same time. After watching...

Anyone ever been to a drive-in movie with their AIr?

I'm hoping Einstein was wrong about the block theory of time. There's so much of my life I hope I'm not living through perpetually.

Anyone ever been to a drive-in movie with their AIr?

I feel like I'm in high school again, trying to deal with the mosquitos, the bugs I couldn't get off the windshield, and the couple in the next car hitting the horn before they move into the back seat.

    Is Lucid styling the problem?

I was followed by a BMW with a lighted grill the other night, and it felt like being stalked by a crazed lemur.

    Is Lucid styling the problem?

I'm certainly having my issues with Gravity software, but I think it slays Mercedes and BMW on styling with its clean lines and muscular restraint. And the over-the-top ambient lighting in the German EVs looks like a casino on a Margaritaville cruise ship -- or somewhere the gents go for...

    The Long Goodbye

BTW, I would be willing to post the photos I've taken of some of our issues. I would need some help from someone with the videos, as those taken on my iPhone can't download to the forum. But I'm not going to do this unless there is interest from others.

    The Long Goodbye

I don't know that I'm that patient. As @Chesapeake just pointed out, outside of software issues these cars are so damned good at everything else that most days it seems worth the effort to do what I can to get them sorted on the software front.
