I can't speak for all Teslas and I have no idea what they do for the navigation but it definitely says Google in the bottom right hand corner when you have the map up

This has to depend a lot on what speed you're going as well, for fresh off of the highway, I would bet preconditioning is closing shutters and diverting coolant....I could see it saving energy in some situations when it's not too cold outside
