7500 EV tax credit update with new bill

Its not assembled in North America. Hyandai do have factory here but currently only for ICE vehicles. Presumably this will be an incentive for them to accelerate their EV manufacturing in US but I’m sure it will be 2-3 years before they are rolling EVs out of a US (or Canada / Mexico) factory.

7500 EV tax credit update with new bill

I think this says a lot. One vehicle that definitely will not qualify, versus another “clean vehicle” that will likely be eligible for $7500 credit: I am not entirely against the bill- encouraging long term US sourcing and manufacturing is a good thing. I think there are many flaws in how...

On quick skimming, Hyundai and Kia dealers seem to be the worst. Good riddance to dealerships.

    A Different Perspective

I was going to say a Pure would really not be that much more than a Y, but now looking at the post-increase price it’s about $20k higher now (with likely loss of the federal tax credit :( )

7500 EV tax credit update with new bill

At least according to the Congressional Budget Office, only 11,000 Vehicle sales are expected to qualify under the new credit terms in 2023 (assuming all get the full $7,500) My guess is 11,000 cars will be less than 1% of total US 2023 EV sales (not including hybrids)...

7500 EV tax credit update with new bill

It’s increasingly started to look that way- for some key battery minerals 75-90% of worldwide refining capacity currently happens in China, which seems to be anathema to this bill. Perhaps that is the goal all along- kill the currents credits, transition to these new ones that almost no one...

2nd qtr results link with Q and A

I can’t see Lucid, Rivian, and Tesla starting to go down in market share anytime this decade (short of bankruptcy at least). It is the existing automakers, with a very few exceptions, that are seeing, and will continue to see their market share drop, losing sales to the new companies (which also...

7500 EV tax credit update with new bill

Not a lawyer either but wondering if Lucid, Fisker (or anyone else) could simply introduce a non-refundable small deposit (like $200) for reservations that are still way out there (not expecting to receive a car for 6 months or way more), and be in compliance with this provision.

How Much Range Are You Actually Getting?

That’s really useful. It shows that 150 vs 350 really isn’t a dealbreaker (short of a cannonball run)- just 6 minutes longer for any session where you are adding 200mi or more.

7500 EV tax credit update with new bill

Seem like a bigger issue could be that given something like 75-90% of all cell materials are refined in China, there seems to be a lot of doubt around that any cars will comply until refining infrastructure is built out in US and US free trade partners (ie in a few years time).

Has nothing to do with the stock price or”China intel”. Fact is that Tesla closed the factory (as they disclosed) and made no cars, and if it were not closed it would have produced 90,000 cars. They have also stated multiple times that chip availability has been limiting their production rates.
