my daily change in elevation is 1500' ... down is amazing @6.4 all the way, and back up is harsher .... but invariably my school run used to end at 2.9-3.3 average for the trip (20-30miles) for me the "change" occurred at 3600miles. the other big change was charging at HOME not at the DC fast...

I've not seen or heard of the auto-unlock setting. but as @hydbob mentioned I just use the left hand screen (lights, wipers, charge port... and door lock)

IMHO, I would always report it - maybe out of the vague hope that the more they hear about some of these problems formally, the more seriously they will take them :)
