Lucid Air Stereo "Surreal Sound" Test Impressions

Dude! So glad this was helpful. Agreed about standing waves. That was a big issue in an older car of mine that was way more boxy, so you’re probably spot on about the glass being the culprit here. Thankfully it didn’t really detract from the quality, it just set off my perfectionist impulses...

There was an odd drop in the bass on the response graph. The -3db was at 47hz, oddly high for any high-end system, but then it had another shelf all the way to 26hz before rolling off. On some tracks I tested the absolute lowest bass notes were surprisingly weak. This could be caused by having...

Some of the locations may have more than one behind a single grill, namely the front and rear dash. I suspect the rear doors do as well.

Is this the future of DreamDrive?

The cruise cars have a metric ass-ton of LiDAR so the Air is definitely not getting that level of autonomy with the current tech anytime soon :D That said, Lucid is the only current production car with LiDAR (the Lotus Eletre will have four when it launches year). I do think we will get level 3...

Front door panels are terrible places for speakers so I’m glad they stuck with the pillar and dash. They eat space, have worse acoustics for anything other than LF duties which can cause nasty resonances or standing waves in the footwell (I’m looking at you, Harmon/Kardon!) For the second row...

    Hunting wild Lucid Airs

Millbrae studio has a bunch of them going through PDI. The team there is great but they’re slammed on weekends, so if you want to drop in I’d suggest a week day. I take the 280 and 92 frequently and see a lucid nearly every day. Prototype cars (usually white or wrapped) doing testing are...

Good to know. Some people said early on it took a few days, glad it isn’t an issue now.

What would you like to see from the Lucid mobile app?

I’m curious if Lucid is using Digital Key 2.0 - that should make it a simple software change to make it work if I’m reading the docs correctly. Edit: digital key 3.0 requires UWB which I don’t know if the car supports.

Has There Always Been Anger At EV Owners?

    …on a 911? I mean, a Prius or lifted truck I can understand, but a 911?

    Front Ends

I’ve read and heard the same, but I don’t believe it is as necessary as they think. Tesla sells like mad in China without any grille, and Nio design has followed suit. It strikes me more as a fear of change in their brand identity instead of an actual desire by customers in the market.

    Front Ends

The fake grilles on EV’s just mystify me. The front of the car can look extremely elegant without them if the lines work. The Range Rover Velar is a great example - the nose isn’t busy and doesn’t have a grille dominating. Why add it when you don’t need it? Also, the BMW (and all other) split...
