    Question about the dashcam functionality

Great points. Lucid's major problem probably is real-time image processing to detect motion. If they have janky algorithms that are massively burning the GPU, they could dial up some serious battery drain.

    Question about the dashcam functionality

That, and the main computer needs to be fully fired up doing real-time video processing to detect motion. Think Ring on steroids.

    Question about the dashcam functionality

It’s not really rearchitecting, but the software has to optimize the best way to monitor 12V battery burn-down so it minimizes the times it powers up the high-voltage to recharge. Or invent a much more efficient way to do the HV to LV DC conversion.

    Question about the dashcam functionality

The problem is not the camera and motion sensing power consumption. It’s the fact the car needs to keep the high-voltage system live to prevent killing the 12V battery. DC-to-DC conversion is inefficient.

    Question about the dashcam functionality

Have you had a Tesla? I think they have been refining Sentey for like 10 years to get it where it is now, and IIRC it’s still about 4%/day off the big battery. I cannot think of any other BEV automaker doing Sentey right now.

    Question about the dashcam functionality

Sentry mode is a major battery suck. It is probably not as easy as Lucid thought.

    Gravity Bugs / Issues

I actually prefer the smaller car because my wife has the 3-row SUV for family hauling. My use case is a hatch design that is big enough to store my bike without removing the wheels. I think the Macan is big enough for that. The Gravity is much bigger than I need, but it has many other plusses.

    Gravity Bugs / Issues

Thanks a ton. This is super helpful, and I appreciate that you took the time to answer. It pretty much echos my test drive experience, about 30 minutes after my Gravity test drive. I want to drive them both again.

    Gravity Bugs / Issues

As a total aside... One of the dark horse cars I am thinking about is the Macan EV. I just saw in your signature that you have a Macan EV. I am curious how you compare that to the Gravity. If I went Macan, I would get their top-level Burmester audio system. Here are my thoughts, but I am curious...

    Gravity Bugs / Issues

Some cars use Bluetooth, like Tesla. Most use UWB. My father and I have been using PaaK on several different cars for many years, and neither of us has had a glitch. I am curious what cars or examples you have seen that are not reliable. In my personal experience, it has been perfect. (And no...

    The Long Goodbye

Dang! I just learned that the tire choices are ludicrously expensive. The OE 22/23 tires are $560 & $920 from TireRack. That is another order of magnitude more than I am accustomed to spending. The 20/21 and 21/22 options are only a little more expensive. (The Porsche Macan EV that also runs a...

    The Long Goodbye

Even with other cars that use PaaK, fob battery life is measured in years, not months. There is something massively wrong with the whole fob infrastructure.

key fob problems with a poll

That has become a popular fob quote. I hit it a week ago also. https://lucidowners.com/threads/the-long-goodbye.15733/page-4#post-345174

    Is Lucid styling the problem?

The Gravity Touring is quicker (0-60 and quarter mile) than the iX xDrive50. However, the iX bests the Gravity in braking and skid pad. C&D does not publish slalom performance online anymore, but the iX xDrive50 would likely beat the Gravity Touring in an autocross course because of its handling...

    Is Lucid styling the problem?

GM BEVs are horrifically inefficient. But, you can get a rough comparison against the BMW iX. That one is a little taller than the Gravity and more SUV-ish with a huge, squared-off hood. Car and Driver got 260 miles at 75 MPH on the Gravity Touring with its 89 kWh battery, for 2.9 miles/kWh...

    Is Lucid styling the problem?

Great point... I totally forgot. I do not road trip often, and I am accustomed to 300+ miles of BEV range, so I cold forgot that many of those cannot make it to 300 miles. I will have to do a bit more research and edit that table. Yes, though I probably will not be able to get to it until mid-...

    Is Lucid styling the problem?

I am looking forward to that test drive. Driving dynamics is one of the high praises in the reviews, and the owners on the forums rave about the driving.

    Is Lucid styling the problem?

I started to, and then deleted it. Too many unknowns, because the only ones I have actually driven are the Macan, Lyriq (but not the V), and Gravity. And all those brands are known for driving dynamics, so there may not be that much differentiation. So far, the Macan was the best, by a lot.
